Couldn't find any problems reported about friends not showing as online when they are, friends showing online when they aren't. Ims that are not getting to people who are on, lack of being able to tp people who are on etc.......
Also any strange instances of stuff just disapearing for no apparent reason at all.
Anyone having the same issues as of late? Or is it limited to me and all the people i know?
Thanks! Furry

The friends-presence bug has been on-going for at least the whole 2 years that I've been in SL. The missing inventory bug is newer, maybe a year or so. But yes, both are common.

Normally the friends online problem comes and goes.

My friends list has been very stable now for months (Lear Cale knocks on wood).

But a friend of mine is having very bad and persistent problems with hers: none of us can see when she's online, and she can't see if others are, etc.

I'm thinking of trying to script a fairly simple tool to help folks with this problem. Of course, it'll only work if the problem if the servers scripts use to get online info is working, which might or might not be the case.

I'll post back if I get anywhere with this. It'll still be a nuisance. I'm thinking of an object where you get friends to touch it and thereafter it shows their name as floating text whenever they're ingame.

there are already scripts out there that do that, all you need is the person's uuid to plug into it (and you can get that from um.. I forget the name of the site, I am sure someone will remember)

You don't even need the UUID - many of the avi detectors will work off of avi name. The one I have seems to work even when the LL website is showing screwy results.

They can work off av name only if the av has come near the object, or if the av happens to be in an offworld database.

I have one, worn as a HUD, that seems to work quite well off avi name; the only ones it hasn't been able to find are the really new accounts.

ok, I went ahead and used the w-hat database so it works off av name. This was as good an excuse as any to finally find out how to do that (turns out to be pretty easy).

So, I made a very simple, low-profile HUD with no fancy whiz-bang features, no radar, no sex sounds, etc. Tiny white rectangle, uses floating text, and just shows a sorted list of names of avatars online.

Add/delete/list the tracked avatars by chat commands and/or notecard.

L$1, in sympathy with those who have borked friends lists. But you can also use it to see if your enemies are ingame.

Find it here:

Now that I think of it, I should have added the ability to configure by key also, in case w-hat doesn't have the av's key. Silly me. Well, maybe next version. I'll also probably add show/hide capability.

With all those new features I might need to double the price. ;)

Ever since I joined SL, just over a year ago, my friends list on my main account has been out of commission roughly 50% of the time.

It drives me mad. Strangely enough, it doesn't just affect my ability to see when my friends are online... they can't see me either. I've tested with two of my alts and sure enough, I don't show up as online on their lists either.

My alts never have this issue.

Go figure...

Edited to add: Cheers Leah, I'll give that a try!

Most of the time, my inworld friends list works correctly -- except for those times when most of SL is borked. However, the Friends Online web page is totally random for me, leading me to believe that it is not checking avi online status in the same way that my viewer client does nor in the same way as these various avi detectors do.

Since that web page got screwed up so far back, but the avi detectors seem to work all the time, that implies that there is a fairly easy fix for that darn web page. DUH LL !!!!

Same for my friend, which is why I made the HUD.

Who's Leah? Is this a Star Wars convention? ;)

You are right Lil, the detectors work 100% of the time. I know because I made my own. You cannot hide from them, not even the Lindens can. I have a special version that can tell me which Lindens are online when I press the button. I did the first one because I was sick of the FL mess ups and the Linden one started life as a alt detector where you put all suspected alt names into the notecard and you can see if they log on/off together or at around the same time. That was to help a friend who's ex was stalking her on alts after she dumped him. Then one day I thought, I wonder if this would tell me what Lindens were online. So I plugged in the a list of Linden names, lo and behold it worked.

And before anyone asks, No I do not hand them out.
