While the information's somewhat stale, I'd suggest starting with this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Entrepreneurs-Guide-Second-Life-Metaverse/dp/0470179147

Don't expect to make a whole lot of money off Second Life right off the bat, if that. Realistically, only around a hundred people make any livable income off Second Life (at last tally), with the remainder making mostly supplementary pieces.

Thanks for the help! But what i need is some information for me to begin with. like i said, i dont have to be a total successful entrepreneur but experience what it takes to be an entrepreneur. a normal job will do to experience what it is being an entrepreneur. where do i start and how do i start? pls and thanks!

There are lots of ways to find in-world jobs. Try the subforum /118/1.html for starters.

But being an "entrepreneur" in the abstract is like being an Olympic athlete without actually knowing any sports. So, as you're doing, getting experience with an in-world job or skill is pretty much necessary, plus creating the "virtual Rolodex" of a Friends list full of valuable contacts.

The only shortcuts are the ones one makes oneself.

Wait it sounds to me like you don’t want to actually be an entrepreneur just have someone tell you the formula...for a class project?
Maybe you should find out who the best entrepreneurs are and try to interview them.
Or hell make something up! We’ll vouch for you. But if you get an ‘A’ what do we get?

I have a little more time now and no intention to be curt but...

An entrepreneur doesn't go and "get a job" out of a pool of available ones, he/she'd make one up!

I said "sales and marketing". Why clothes design? Is there a lack of clothes in SL already?

What does your research say is missing as a product or service? I've thought of one but it's not exactly what you'd call mainstream...oh wait...let me re-read the porn thread...ok, i'm kind of mainstream but I digress!

You have done some research right? If not, that's where you MUST start if this is about enterprise and not just "getting a job".

Having identified your niche, why will people buy your product or service? What will be unique about it?

Here's a couple of holes for you...

Dance animations that are way better than <insert favourite top dance animator>, cheaper and COPY permissions (ok not unique but certainly a top seller)

A really really good lapdance system/animation/chair whatever

Female sanitary products. I've seen dispensers but have never found the "goods" yet but i'll keep looking. (you might struggle with a market for this but the research would prove a point).

So having developed the product or service, how are you going to sell it? To whom? Where? How will you advertise it?

Anyone can make something, with or without marketing, it's the selling part that's the hard part.

Presumably you're not working on real costs because your cost in terms of time and lost opporunity in RL will likely far exceed the returns from SL sales so I guess you're just trying to come out with more than you input?

To be honest, you're unlikely to make money but if you do the project properly then you'll learn plenty and can document the process adequately.
