Here's the situation - I am trying to find a way to search IM logs to see who I was talking with in IM at a specific date and time. Does anyone know where the logs are stored in the program group - and what format they are in? Thanks in advance - a search of the forum with several variations on the keywords did not reveal any useful info.

I believe the directory is visible in the communication tab in preferences. They are text files *.txt. You could search your computer for the person's name in text file format. e.g., Klipang Torok.txt _____________________

The key phrase is, "IF you are logging IMs".
Unless you have deliberately set your preferences to do so, you probably aren't. Go to Edit/Preferences/Communication. See if the Log IM button is checked. Check for the path to the folder _____________________

Yes, the directory is available in your preferences tab and by default on windows it is somehthing like this C:\Documents and Settings\kris\Application Data\SecondLife. Also, I believe by default the Application Data folder is not visible in Windows Explorer. To be able to view that when in Windows Explorer (you can get that through Start --> Accessories --> Windows Explorer) on the top menu bar select Tools --> Folder Options, click on the View tab and click the 'Show hidden files and folders' radio button.

Thanks!! I am logging - just wasn't sure if they were stored as text files or not. Will check this out later on at home.

Unless you have deliberately set your preferences to do so, you probably aren't. Much to my surprise, I discovered the other day that the RC client I've been running for the last couple of weeks seems to have defaulted to logging IM's and I had to turn it off. I have it off in the main client, and guess I assumed that new installs defaulted to off, so I didn't check. I don't remember turning it on in the RC though. I've never logged IM's and didn't plan to start. _____________________
