A modelling career?

Hi all

I've been looking around for something to focus my energies in in SL and a friend suggested I try modelling. Fasion, shows, events kind of stuff - not "glamour". :-) I have been told that my AV has a distinctly different look - she certainly took a long while to create. And I really don't fancy jiggling on a pole or anything like that.

I looked a couple of agencies but they wanted me to spend 000's on a portfolio before anything. Then I have no guarantee of work so I thought I'd try on my own. I set up a photo studio and have spent a good while getting some shots together. Using a book creator thingy I found, I'm not just putting the finishing touches to my portfolio.

So, the question is, where next? I guess I should approach designers/store owners? But does anyone have any idea what I should charge? I din't want to undercut people who are already doing this, that wouldn't be fair. And I don't expect to make a fortune either! This is just a fun interest really.

Thanks!

How about learning to make clothes and accessories and using yourself as a model to market your own products?

Contact Barth Taurog in world for some photos. Tell him that I recommended you, I am sure he can come to some kind of arrangement for you re portfolio shots.

There is a modeling agency on the FASHION region. Its now oceanside and on a huge plot for their large events. Try going there to see if they can match you up with a job.

One of the best photographers in-world that I have seen is Saturnine Dryke. If you want, contact her for a porfolio. Her work is pretty amazing.

You might look at this thread from a few months ago on how to become a model in SL; I believe everything in it is still true:

Xplorer thanks for the heads-up. You're referring to MODA Modeling School. Like the name says, it's one of the best (if not the best) modeling school in SL. MODA is not an agency, they do, however, work with modeling agencies to train their models.
IF the OP is not interested in modeling school to avoid spending Ls, the next option is to get hired by a modeling agency that offers training to its models. There are a number of such agencies in SL.
In my own experience, designers give little consideration to requests from self-thaught models with no experience and no formal education. A professional model is not just a pretty skin on a nice shape.

I briefly thought about looking into modelling on SL. I think my personality would fit, as well as my look, and I do the modeling for my own things and my husband's things. However, I really think that most of the clothes designers in SL prefer to use themselves, or close friends, as models. Runway shows would be something to look into, though.

I use myself and a couple of friends to model my designs.

I have never really needed a professional model for the vendor shots I need.

Fashion shows and the like would seem to be where modelling skills are more important. Sadly I've never had a chance to participate or contribute designs towards one.
