Can I Block It?

The 512sqm parcel next to my land is for sale. The owner wants 12999L for this parcel. That's almost as much as I paid for all of my 2500+sqm parcel. Anyway, the owner has now put these scripted blue pyramids on her land that shoot blue lights up into the air. As far as I can figure the only purpose these things serve is to cause lag for neighboring properties. Since my roommate and I are the ones right next to it, and the only ones actually living on their property we're thinking its an attempt to bully us into buying the land for waaaaay more than it's worth.
So, my question is this: Is there a way for us to block the effects of these things? Would it help us if we built a wall? If we moved the house further away from the property line? Can we report it as harrassment?

Hi Mara You should not Abuse Report it, as people are allowed to do what they want with their land as long as it stays on their land. If the blue light shooting up in the air are made of particles, you can hide particles in your viewer. That will hide all particles, though, so if you have some that you want to see, you are out of luck. As long as you keep it on your side of the property line, you are free to build a wall. Some people hate those big walls, but as it is your property, it is your choice. One other possibility... try right-clicking the object and selecting Mute. I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that will hide the particles coming from it. Or you may need to mute the owner of the object (which of course means you'll never receive ANY messages from them). Good luck.

You can mute someone and it also mutes their particles. I fondly recall having to do this to someone. Don't know about objects though.
What I wonder is how on Earth can someone do such a thing? It speaks of such moral degeneracy and inadequacy in all things that make us human.

actually you can AR it if it is hindering your gameplay
The TOS clearly states that we will not hinder the play of others. It could be considered a form of griefing. *shrug*
I would first kindly ask the neighbour why it is there, and they are rude or do not reply then I would AR it.

-Some scripts can cause lag. PArticles in and of themselves do not (they do for the client-side, but not the sim). However, poorly made (or those made for griefing/harrassing) can cause problems. If you suspect the script to be of such a nature, file a Support Ticket requesting Linden review of the object/script in question. They can determine if it is a problem, or simply the way the system works.
-Yes, you can block it. Before you do any of the various walls/ban lines/invis-prims to do so, however, I suggest asking the person if they would turn the particles down a bit. Be very cordial in your IM. If met with hostility, do not respond in kind. Simply thank them for their time and go on. If they persist in being rude, then MUTE, and AR at your descression.
Blocking can be done in many ways. If only for a visible effect, and in one direction, I recommend making the object phantom (so to not interfere with anyone else in the area), and using either an invis-prim, or a nicely textured backdrop (like a sunset, or beach setting) that you find desirable. If the person in question causes issues, then ban them from your land. File ARs as deemed needed.
Above all, in such a situation as this, you need to keep your head, and your cool, and not let them amke you act on anger or frustration. Do NOT give them a reason to AR you. If you feel angry, or annoyed, go get a drink and a sammich, or just log out and come back later. Send no IMs in the face of harrassment.
Your best "weapon" is to simply let them eat tier. And before any say "Well, it's 512m, so might be their free tier with the Premium.", yes, it may be, but that means they can't own more and not pay tier, plus they are basically paying for something they aren't using. Very few are left of whom have the grandfathered Stiepends to make their Account pay for itself. 300L$ a week doesn't. It's only worth it if you own land. If you're not using that land, then it's just costing you to keep it.
-The last option is to just ignore it. Go into Prefrences and turn down particles to a few hundred. Or jsut use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+= when at your property and instruct guests to do the same.
-I'm not sure if the MUTE works on objects like that, but Torley did to a Tip-of-the-Week on this. Can't remember which one, but search the blog for "Tip of the Week" and I'm sure you can find his tutorials. Only like 9 so far.
In any case, hang in there, and good luck. ~Jessy

Do the particles enter your land at all? If they do, it's definitely a reason for an AR. Both you and your room-mate should AR it at the same time - more likely to get noticed if there are a couple of names reporting the same incident. Could still take a while for a response though. And if at any time the land owner states that they are using the particles to compel you to buy their land, that is definitely harrassment and should also be reported. I was able to get mega-prims that completed surrounded a tenants property removed because the owner of the prims admitted in chat that he placed the prims to ruin her business and force me to sell my land to him.

i do not think you should take the price of land sale personally. i do not think you should take the lighting personally. i do not think you should ask them to turn down there particles. i think you should use a barrier to hide it if it bothers you. i hope your future new neighbors are not ad-farmers. best of luck.

Depending on how high the particles go into the sky, you may be able to move your house up into the air so you can enjoy a nice peaceful view of the sky with no particles spoiling your view. If you need help doing this let me know. I can give you a 512 SM platform that fits your land and you can set it and your home up in the air

Some people do this sort of thing - and yes, I believe that's exactly this person's goal. I had a neighbor who recently did something similar with a collection of sex devices out on an open platform. I AR'd him because his platform overlapped my land, but eventually he gave up and apparently sold it to a land broker, who subsequently sold it to someone else who belongs to some green space groups, so I'm hopeful it will remain a pleasant place. Put up a wall with a soothing landscape and hold out - eventually the owner will give up and go away.

Perhaps not then, probably wouldn't stop me though. I'd have the right to keep making legit market value offers to him for his land, say once a day, if he doesn't like that he could mute me. The more crap he puts on it, the less I offer.

From: Tegg Bode Get everyone on your friends list to IM the owner on how their laggy land sucks. Perhaps keep offering yours to him at exorbitant prices? Do NOT do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That suggestion is harrassment. It will cure your problem by getting YOU Abuse Reported and possibly banned. Dumb idea. ~Jessy

Just hold out against this person. Nobody else is going to want to buy the 512m for L$12999. Eventually they will probably drop their price. You could always put up a wall with a nice texture on your side and, say, lime green and lurid pink bright squares on their side. Make sure the wall is entirely on your land and you will not be doing anything wrong. That would make the neighbouring 512 even less attractive to other buyers. I held out against buying 128 sq m roadside land adjoining my old place that was L$12800 for months and months with 4 'for sale signs'. Now it's L$8000 - still way too high - anyway, I've sold up and moved just along the road.
