So somehow I messed up and removed my head, upper, and lower "tattoos" that provide definition on my avatar... and I know how to get back in, but where can I find those "tattoo" sets? I've looked in my Library and I'm not seeing them... how can I fix this? My av looks awful, lol.

um if you change those textures and don't have those textures in your inventory..you will need to go buy them again or see if the creator will give you another skin ..i dont they will give you the texture to replace the one missing..

A skin consists of a base layer plus three 'tattoo' textures that make up the head, upper and lower body. It is very rare to receive these textures separately, only as part of the skin. As the OP has realised, it *is* possible (with a moddable skin) to mess things up by replacing any or all of the textures. And as Ceka said, once you replace a texture you don't own a copy of, you've lost it for good (this includes textures on objects too).

If it's one of the skins that originally came from your Library, you will still have the skin in there. Look through the skins that come with the various avatars until you find the one that matches. If you didn't rename the skin, just search for the name of the messed up skin.

If it was a skin you bought or received after first creating the account, you *might* still have a copy of it somewhere. Again, if you didn't rename it at any point, you should be able to search it by name.

If there isn't a copy (it was not a Library skin and you didn't/couldn't copy it before you damaged it) then you'll have to go cap-in-hand to the person who sold you it, and see how customer-friendly they are.

A lesson to be learned here: if you want to edit something, COPY IT FIRST (if you can).

Brilliant, thank you so much Kelli -- I didn't realize the textures were connected to the skins and not inherent of my av.

Most skin makers are reasonable and understanding in situations like this. This should be an easy replacement, Aspen. Transferable skins are the only ones that can be a challenge to replace. Luckily, it sounds like you don't have this type of skin.

The most common permissions settings on opaque skins are Copy only. This provides protection to the consumer from accidental corruption. With modifiable skins (ones that usually have transparent areas) it is almost always Mod and Copy (with a backup skin included). Very rarely are skins transferable unless they are demos, free, or extremely cheap. It is difficult for skin makers to support customers without some sort of verifiable transaction history.

It would be nice to have an ownership history as well as a transaction history. This would make customer support even easier for all types of skin/clothing permissions settings.
