Okay to build on Gov Linden's land?

I was wondering. . .
Suppose you have neighbors on the mainland, and there is open water next to both your parcels. That open water land clearly belongs to Governor Linden. Is it okay to build on that land, or open water?

I'm curious, because my neighbors have dropped an oil rig and a big reef in an area that clearly does not belong to them.

Should they be ARed?

No, it's not okay. It's considered prim littering.

File a support ticket and ask Governor Linden to set the auto return on.

That is encroachment, which does indeed have a category under Abuse Reports. The only "Governor Linden" land that people *are* supposed to build on are the Sandboxes.

Best of luck!

Okay. I've filed an AR for Object Littering on both of the people involved. Admittedly, one is just a giant 6 prim rock, but the other is a 66 prim oil rig (not to mention eyesore).

I'm curious as to why the front page of the Marketplace at XStreet virtually always has at least one of those 'build outside your sim' kits.

Surely, if this is against policy, LL wouldn't permit these to be sold...and so prominently....???

Outside sim items are really meant to go into a void, i.e. a space where there is no land at all along the edge of a sim with no sims adjoining it. In that case they don't encroach on public land or anyone else's land.

Some people think oil rigs are picturesque.

I wouldn't have ARed them, I'd have filed a support request if the rig was blocking travel though.

As others have mentioned, they can be used in voids, particularly off of private estates. Seen many nice examples of that, particularly the Aggro sim. But, as with anything, one can do good things and bad things...

That's not going to make the boaters happy.

File a support ticket and ask LL to remove the prims....but if LL turns on autoreturn all those boats would have problems sailing, motoring etc.

Autoreturn doesn't return things that people are sitting on, aka: in-use vehicles..

Yeah, I don't think it's necessary to automatically AR every violation. If they're unsightly enough to detract from one's enjoyment of one's own land then, yeah, they're not using that shared space appropriately, but otherwise: meh.

In fact, one of my Zindra neighbors has a lighthouse out at the end of their pier with rocks and stuff that encroach a bit on Linden protected water (and my own parcel). I kind of like it, so I set some waves crashing against it that encroach even more on Linden water, but it looks quite good, IMHO, and is kind of a local landmark.

Ayesha and Marinanne--thanks. I can see that the 'okay to use outside-sim stuff on void sims' rule would at least prevent the inconvenience to sailing that outside-sim stuff on the Governor's sims would create.

(Though in both cases, the impact on people's views is pretty similar.)
