Registering question - optional communities

Hi, I cant seem to remember how to get the optional communities when registering a new account. I know there is a check box on the default account creation, which lets you choose a starting place after you choose a name, but there used to be (hopefully still is) a selection of starting communities from the offset.

The reason why I want the optional communities is because they had a longer list of available last names to choose from, rather than the default randomly selected last names. I'm creating an alt and I'm particular about names... it was easier to pick one from the lists on the alternate account creation screens, but with the default random list, you have to keep refreshing it if you want to go back to one you liked... and its random so you might not see it again for ages... Did that make any sense?

So anyways, did Lindens get rid of the that style of account creation, or am I just not looking hard enough?

Thanks in advance

You might want to check out slnamewatch which covers all the known available names and the portals through which you can obtain them, quite a few of which have different (and occasionally unreliable) signup mechanisms to allow you to select names "efficiently" in comparison with the standard SL signup portal.

Ah great, thank you!

But there was a choice of start up locations on the official site before, or am I going mad? Or blind?

No, you're not.

I found the (other) communities' websites via google, but I can't recall offhand what search phrase(s) I used. One is SL Dublin I remember - Dreamland might've been another.

Yes they do have longer name lists and I wish the main site would also. Once in a while I go to those out of curiosity to see what they have. Lol

Anyway they have their own websites usually so just try & find one and sign up there rather than secondlife.com (make sure it's legit).

Btw if you meant choosing other possible communities while on the secondlife.com website it was just a checkmark, then a drop down menu. Unless they changed it recently.
