Hey I have an island now!! <ok, that's a joke folks>

From my land in the corner of a sim, I cannot see or walk to the sims around me. My neighbor in the next sim can't walk over. Is it just us, or is this happening all over the MAINLAND?

400 regions are off or were off line, maybe that is the problem.

I'm confused, did you buy a mainland sim or an island? (Sorry, I'm blonde. :p )

There was a mainland sim that had a similiar problem to what you describe up for auction recently. Not sure if that was ever fixed.

Wonders if they moved them? Do they show on the map right next to you?

I was joking about having an island :p This is a mainland sim, and I can't see or walk to the sims around me. My neighbor, across the sim boundary can't see his neighbors, either.

The sims show on the map, and you can teleport to them, you just can't walk or fly there.

Was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this. Wander over to Papa, NE corner. You can't see Aich Hikuelo, and whatever the other sim that neighbors to the east.

This behavior is a result of the maintenance Linden has been performing, discussed in the blog post here: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/22/short-region-outages-planned/

From: Linden Blog
If you are connected to an affected region while it is being worked on, an alert will be issued within that region, and once “disconnected”, you may still appear connected to the region, but you will be unable to teleport, rez or chat. Once the regions become “reconnected”, if you are still in that region, you will see an alert saying the outage for that region is over, and you should be able to continue activities as normal.

When your region gets disconnected like this, it'll appear from the inside sort of like a private island - although IMs, teleports, and inventory transfers wont work.

That's not it. I can TP, IM, rezz objects, etc. I just can't see, or walk to the sim next door. The sim is there, I can teleport back and forth, but I just can't see it or walk over there. And it isn't just my home sim and its neighbors, I've have found this in a number of places on the mainland. And it's been going on for over 3 hours, not the 5-10 minutes mentioned in the blog. And it's not happening at the 3AM PDT time frame they said they were going to do this work.

There is a new blog post about "issues" today. <shrug> More SL weirdness.

Sometimes regions get out of synch somehow. I'd just put in a support ticket.

And yes, I've experienced the same issue several times, as recently as last week.

In order for you to be able to see or walk to the adjacent sim it must occupy the grid position next to the sim you are in. Sometimes the grid coordinates of a sim will get borked and it isn't adjacent anymore. The map will show it because it doesn't get updated very often but in reality is is elsewhere on the grid. So as long as it is online you can TP and it operates normally but unless it is adjacent to some other sim you can't cross the sim borders.
