I own a nice piece of oceanview property that has a shoreline of protected Linden land as the beach front between me and the water. It is beautiful, and with the onset of Windlight, I really want to be able to sail in front of my property. Well, you can't rez anything on Linden land, so.....is there a sailboat out there that can be worn and sailed on Linden water?

Please tell me there is...

Don't know if there is such a thing but I would open a support ticket and ask if build & autoreturn can be enabled on the protected land. It's a reasonable request and they might do it..

Once you add a support ticket, try cornering Jack at his office and bribe/beg him to fix you up (or even try that without the support ticket). http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_Hours#Jack_Linden .

When you use a vehicle you have to seat on it or wear it. That way the object wont be returned. What you can do is rezz the vehicle in your land and then you can go to the protected land without any problems.

"go to" as in

Rezz the boat.
Edit
Move it over the water by dragging the usual arrows. It appears that iwhere you are you have to drag it over the the Linden land to the Linden water)
Close edit and it drops down to water level
Sit on it before it gets returned

Then it's not a boat-scripted vehicle. It just an object that looks like a boat.
There are freebies about.
And Search will find you real boats to

I did take Sindys' suggestion and sent a note to Jack Linden:

Hi Jack, I own some oceanview property in Tipaskan 235,158, and there is a protected small beach between it and the water. The entire sim (Kokyanwuit) is mostly water and protected of course. I love to sail, and now with the beauty of Windlight, I am aching to sail in front of my property. Is it possible to enable Build and auto return to Kokyanwuti? Having been in SL for just over a year now, I can see the possible headaches that might be created. But it is so beautiful here, and I think a few boats transversing the sparkeling ocean would be fantastic. I would promise to police it and if it became a problem, I would request it removed. A little smoohzing couldn't hurt, plus I fluttered my Windlight eyelashes a bit. hehe

Sling, I will give that a try. Do they sell lifepreservers anywhere?

I can rez the boat on my property and sit in it. Drag it to the water and plop it into the ocean. It starts to sail, only the sail is down. "Raise" I tells it. Nope! Drag it back to my property and "Raise", yup! So the sail is up, I am in the boat, plop it back on the water and start sailing away. "Sheet -15", nope!

To make a long story short, yes, as Sling had instructed, it works, and is fun, but the voice commands will not work. I can steer alright but am at the mercy of the sail full abeam. Not that bad, in RL I can just about parallel park a sailboat but some of the simple pleasures are missing here. Maybe Jack Linden will show some mercy.

That sounds like scripting is turned off in the Linden ocean sim. It was like that in the Nautilus continent when they first built it, but LL eventually turned scripting on and boats work fine now.

I really doubt they'll turn on build, though. I only know of a few Linden oceans that have that, all in the two oldest continents.

Yrrek, can you terraform your land to give yourself a little water on the border? That would make launching much easier.

Also, if you're willing to try out something away from home, you are welcome to set sail at my Nautilus Harbor public boat launch. Check my profile picks inworld for a landmark.

Thanks Ann, but the whole point was sailing off of my property. I do not have estate rights and there is a 30 m strip of beach between my property and the ocean, that I can't touch. You did give me an idea tho. I wonder if I can re-write the main scripts. Voice commands do not work, but keyboard commands do. Is the Tako script mod? Problem is, the HUD won't work either.

Hey! What ever happened to the open seas anyway? Pie-rats? hehe
