... is there any way to turn those annoying lines off when you have something selected for editing?

When trying to 'precision line up' things on an angle - and not wanting to work out the exact maths involved (even though SL often doesn't work true) - it's very difficult to see 'through' those lines.

Not that I've ever heard of.
You may have to whip out the slide rule and do the math.

Here's how I get things as close to perfect as I can::

If its an even number in size apart.. say both are 10m across, simply put the XY or Z value10 more for one than the other. This *is* perfect alignment. Can do it with any size actually.. I just choose not to do the math usually.
Second way:

Drag them pretty close together (OK, as close as you can go without overlapping), then zoom in as far as you can at the edge of the. If you look closely you can see through the line. though don't need to usually. Simply bring the position value up or down one click at a time. Chek position by leaving the edit window, and if you overlap, get it to the one before overlap. then make the last digit a 5. If thats still too much try 2.. and so on until its done.

If you don't have the patience for getting it perfect, then... well... learn it ;)

In a straight line I have no problem with ... I'm talking about when lining up corners on funny angles. Without those damn lines, it would be easy... but they cover up exactly where you need to be looking.

oh...for weird angles..like if you're doing exact replicas that are rotated to fit together.... then I just copy it and then move it back to original position, then use stretch to keep it aligned perfect...

anyway i dunno how to get rid of the lines....

The "selection highlight" settings are in the Debug Settings menu.

They are:
SelectionHighlightAlpha
SelectionHighlightAlphaTest
SelectionHighlightThickness
SelectionHighlightUAnim
SelectionHighlightUScale
SelectionHighlghtVAnim
SelectionHighlightVScale

You could set the alpha to 0, or set the thickness to 0, to make them vanish.

You can also change the colors and with SilhouetteChildColor and SilhoutteParentColor.

I was going to test these but SL is being bad.

I believe there used to be a setting in the .ini file to set the opacity of those lines, but I've never touched it personally and don't know which value it is.

EDIT: been waiting to log in ten minutes now to check debug, Susanne found it

SL persists in being bad.

If memory serves, at least some, if not all, of these settings are such that you have to restart SL to see the change.

And since I tried to do that and SL won't let me back in... I'm doomed.
