If you have a tiny parcel, and are surrounded on all 4 sides by neighbors, but don't want to see your neighbor's lands when you walk close to a wall on your parcel... is there a way to prevent that?
(Sorry, not sure how to express my problem, exactly.)

Ye seeks the precious texture!
There isn't really a reliable way of doing this. But there is a mysterious magical texture that will cause avatars and other objects to vanish when obscured by an object that uses the magical texture. I've sent you one. Use it wisely and for good only, or it will consume you and cause a rash in dark places.
It's very unreliable. So don't rely on it to hide from orcses and evil lindenses.

Thanks for the invisibility trick, 2k Suisei!! Clever use of the invisible texture technique in the code!

Actually, it doesn't work in application! You see what's behind the wall -- the furniture and things inside my neighbor's house!!!

From: Kyrah Abattoir explain me the point of registering to an online game and put fences around you? The same reason that people feel the need to put up ban lines and buy griefer "security" systems. Given that SL is meant to be a 'social' game, I've never figured out why so many people are so antisocial. Quite how there is ever meant to be a community with a common goal, when it's so fragmented, is beyond me. Broccoli

You've got a few choices, so take your pick:
Buy a screen of trees to block out the view in an attractive and non-hostile manner.
Build a skybox and remove yourself from the neighborhood entirely.

also, Kyrah Abattoir, sometimes, you walk into a corner near a wall, and you rotate and all of a sudden, you're not in the same room anymore, but the screen goes to the neighboring parcel outside.
it's not really the neighborrs, just how quirky the SL camera is.

This may not be relevant or correct but do you have Object-Object Occlusion turned on?
If so, you might try turning it off and see if that helps.
It's in the Client / Rendering menu, or Control Shift O (the letter O) if the client menu is showing.

Why do some people think that because this is a "social" game that every single person must, every minute in the game, be forced to see and deal with all the bad that's there?
This does not compute at all. There are ways to avoid some of the bad things, like covering up (from your POV) a neighbor's ugly build. How in the world is that "anti-social"?
That is not wrong. It's reasonable. I may have to look at a neighbor's trashy yard in real life, but thank goodness I don't here.

I swear... if I see another toilet in a SL house, I am going to open up a hardware store that sells toilet paper

As others have said, there are a limited number of solutions for neighboring builds that you find unattractive:
1) Large trees to screen the view 2) Buy a larger piece of land 3) Move to private island sim that is zoned 4) Move to Sky House 5) Learn to live with it - over time you will stop noticing the other builds so much as they just become part of your landscape.
Learning to live with it is the easiest option if you are going to stay on a 512 parcel.

From: Isablan Neva Learning to live with it is the easiest option if you are going to stay on a 512 parcel. If you stay on any plot long enough, the land builds around you will change anyway. Here one day, gone the next. Just within a matter of weeks a parcel adjacent to mine went from bare land to waterfall wonderland back to bare land and is now a monolithic brick box. (Why do people buy land on the side of a mountain if they want to build on flat land?)

is there a way to highlight all objects that are mine? From what I read earlier it sounds like you made your wall invisible. If so then press Ctl+Alt+t to make invisible objects visible (they appear as a reddish haze). This will let you see your wall so you can select it. If your wall is not invisible then maybe you moved it across the sim accidentally when entering your x,y,z position co-ordinates when setting it up. I did this once and found my items on the other side of the sim. If this is the case there are 2 ways to see the item. 1) Right click your land then About Land then Objects then click the Show button for show owners objects. This will make all your objects on your land show up in white. I think this method only works for objects on your land so not sure it will find one that has accidently been moved off your land. 2) Turn the mini-map on and fly around over the sim. Objects you own will appear in light blue on the map. This method is good when your objects have gone wandering due to mistyped xyz co-ordinates.

From: Regan Turas (Why do people buy land on the side of a mountain if they want to build on flat land?) Well, for 512 plots First Land buyers don't get much choice in the matter these days
