Has the option to block access to non "age-verified" SL residents always existed in the Access tab for land? I just noticed it now because I bumped into a neighbor's new ban lines which are up for me since I don't feel like giving my private information to a data mining company.

Yup they've been here for a while and they've never worked properly.

The option to force access to be limited only to those who are Aristotle Verified was put in place over a year go, and never worked 100%. Most land owners refused to use that parcel or sim setting, because it had a demonstrated high failure rate, barring people who were properly verified and should be allowed access from some parcels, while allowing them just fine in others; and allowing people who had never verified to access parcels that they should be barred from for lack of verification. Add to that the fact that it has no effect at all above a height of 50+ greater than the terrain surface, and the massive distrust that many people had for the Identity Verification Provider, Aristotle, who was a known data mining company, and the fact that many people outside the USA found it impossible to age verify through Aristotle, or even ILLEGAL to do so in their country...

So, LL rolled it out as a Beta, and it never went into "Official" use. The new "Adult Access Only" sim rating generally replaces the parcel-based setting, and allows both Aristotle verified and Payment Info On File individuals to access the sim. While some people might still want to lock a parcel to ONLY allow Aristotle-verified individuals, I doubt that many will. Because that aspect STILL doesn't work right. It's like hiring a drunk bouncer at your club, who is likely to let in some people with no ID check, and keep out some people with valid ID. He may keep out SOME people with no ID, but if he also keeps out valid customers and allows invalid ones in, it's no good.

Yes, the primary-color blue club nearby with the laser light show outside - which I never see anyone go into or out of - has ban lines unless you are aristotle-approved.

I'm especially puzzled when I see stores/places on adult mainland who use this feature. Yesterday for instance, I passed by a furniture store that used this. They are of course free to do so, but I can't help but wonder if many who choose this option when on adult land, are acting out of a misunderstanding - and then also risking losing business.

Mostly paranoia, I think. The new "Adult Sim Rating" allows anyone with payment info on file to get in. And for all anyone knows, that could be a 10 year old who got a VISA gift card for her birthday present, and used that and a fake age assertation to set up her account. Not that Aristotle is any better proof, when you can give the RL info for a dead celebrity, like Elvis Prestley, and be accepted as having "proved your age".

Personally, once the new sim ratings are officially enforced, I think they should scrap the parcel and sim "Accept Aristotle ID Only" options as redundant, when the sim that Adult stuff is in already has to require either Aristotle or Payment Info, and LL deems that as "sufficent" for proof of approval to view the most Extreme Adult Content.
