Are there any maps made from sculpties, somewhat like a jigsaw puzzle with each piece being a separate sculpty, such that one could have, say, a map of the earth, one continent shaped sculpty per continent? Possibly a globe made like that?

I'm assuming you mean within SL..in which case I have no idea..in RL though I do believe I saw a TV advert (in the UK) just a few weeks ago for the very same. 3D jigsaw's of the Earth, unfortunately I have no idea who made them or where you'd get one..

Well I was a real help wasn't I...:rolleyes:

Ask.com Spelling Suggestion: are there any maps made from sculptors?

Sculptors do not approve of maps made from sculptors.

I didn't see any in the first page of answers there. Mapping SL terrain and making one sculpty that models the topography is similar to but not quite what I'm thinking about.

That reminds me, does the new LSL touch position function work on spheres? If so, what kind of results does it give?

I played around with this briefly. I rezzed a sphere and didn't resize or rotate it. I applied an earth texture similar to:

http://www.buining.com/images/EarthTM0360.jpg

Then added this script:

CODE
default
{
touch_start(integer total_number)
{
llOwnerSay((string)llDetectedTouchST(0));
}
}

Clicking southeast of Australia caused (x,y) results close to (0, 0). Clicking northwest of Alaska caused (x,y) results close to (1, 1).

It seems as if the closer to the lower right in the image you click, the closer to (0, 0) will be returned and the closer to the upper left in the image, the close to (1, 1) will be returned.
