if you want an international audience to easily remember your url i reckon nothing beats a .com or possibly .net
.cc .to .sl .tv etc dont do the job imo. _____________________

Leave the country code TLDs to their respective countries.

First impression of a .cc site: hacker site, malware, view with extreme caution.
.com, .org and .net are probably the best bet if you can get them. However, if you're very creative, you can use the extensions to your advantage, e.g. whocalled.us =^.^= _____________________

I am in the UK, and .cc doesn't say much to me except that's how we measure car engine size (cubic centimetres). Unless I'm missing something (haven't finished my first coffee yet)? I think you may have misread her post. _____________________

Guess this answers it best:
"Question: What is a .cc (dot cc) domain? Answer: The .cc domain suffix is the top-level domain (TLD) for the Cocos Islands. However, it is commonly used as an alternative to the ".com" suffix for commercial Web sites. The .cc suffix is convenient because it is short and easy to say. However, not all Web hosting companies support .cc domains and they are not offered by many domain name registrars. Therefore, it is usually better to use an alternate domain name with a .com, .net, or .org suffix instead of selecting a .cc domain name." _____________________

your hosting and your domain should ideally be two separate things.
and unless your website is intended for a dutch audience, nl isnt any better than cc. _____________________

I have one .st domain and a whole handful of .us domains and one .org domain. .Us domains are cheap and I think they are great for nonbusiness websites. The .st was cheap but distinctive. I ended up with a very short url for a web site with a very long name.

I can at least find .nl on a map... I'm less inclined to trust country domains I can't readily locate on a map (.cc, .cx, and the now obsolete .su) or know factually don't have reliable internet service as a nation (Tvalo (.tv) and Iraq (.iq) come to mind). |

Leave the country code TLDs to their respective countries. The Cocos Islands! I hafta agree, though. .com is the *best* way to go. I'd not feel comfy with a .cc site. _____________________

can you change the spelling of your name to get a .com or .net domain? i don't think i've ever been to a .cc domain... and if i was looking for something that i 'sort of' remembered, it would never occur to me to try that one. nope sat yesterday all day infront of the pc trying letter combinations that make sense yet keep it abit general, gave up and tried finding a new name the other half of the day with a relative simple domain name, gave up found the .cc name available, just not really my favorite so after posting this thread i went banging my head against another wall (ruined quite a few) and found that the .nl domain was still free and went hunting for a host in the area... haven`t had an headache in a long time, but still feel the 1 from yesterday lol |
