Moveable Hinge..does it exist..?

Anyone know of a hinge script that allows the door and hinge to be attached to a wall that can then all be moved.

Or put another way..the script I currently use I drop into a hinge, the door and hinge are then linked, the hinge being linked last, when clicked the hinge rotates moving the door with it..nice 'n' simple. However now I want to attach the door and hinge to an elevator, which moves up and down. This means I have to link the door and hinge to the elevator..and consequently the hinge script no longer works.

Anyone know of how I might get round this problem - it's a pretty basic problem and I'm amazed I've never come up against it before..?

Perre..:)

I'm not sure if that's possible. I'll be curious to see if anyone has a solution. I would probably just put hinged doors at each elevator landing instead, so that the doors don't have to move with the rising/falling elevator.

I'm sure I've seen driveable vehicles with hinged doors and an aircraft with a hinged canopy. But I don't know how that's achieved on a linked object.

There is no "hinge joint" function in SL Building today. Things like movable canopies on jets and doors that open on cars rely on scripts that either move individual prims relative to the root prim of the Build, or which show and hide alternate prim sets (one canopy that is open, one canopy that is closed).

(There used to be a hinge function, but it was eliminated, because it never did work well.)

Yes, I know what you are talking about - it's possible, and I've got some now freebie examples of how to do it - prims and scripts, plus theory of operation written in there.

I used to sell these examples for $L 5000 when my inworld business depended on me being 'a step ahead' with regard to such things - now I don't care :) Drop me a notecard inworld to remind me and I'll send them to you. In fact, anyone who wants these, drop me a note :)

I've got one for linked rotating prims, linked moving prims, and I think the third one was using prim params to change prim dimensions for another linked motion effect.

Definitely dropping you a note when I log, Desmond. Having to keep doors separate from my house builds is a complete pain in the arse. Last time I linked a click-touch hinged door to a house (the way the notecard told me to do it) I clicked it and the whole house rotated!

Essentially, you have to do the math yourself since, as Ceera says, there is no linked hierarchy.
One alternative is to do away with the hinge entirely, and use the path cut parameters to "cut a prim in half". It'll still rotate around what was the original center, but since it's cut, it'll now look like it rotates at the edge, giving you a one-prim, linkable door.
(You can also use dimple one end of a sphere to .5 and turn it back into a box to cut it that way).

I use the free "timeless door script"available from the scripting library. It's easy to use and you can link your door.
