Does anyone know if LL are planning to make the Mac client support multicore/multiprocessor machines? It just seems kind of silly to have a one processor maxed out while the other sits idle. I would have posted this int the Mac forum but I doubt whether any Lindens actually read it...

I'd love it if they did ... My mac is so crashy with this client, I am actually thinking about buying a cheap pc with a good graphics card just for SL. I am also ashamed to say that in public

Congratulations and shame on you. you are a slut in the very best possible meaning of the word!

No.....its your PC's hardware and configuration that sucks.)) As a note: In RL my graphics and content group used Apple products, finance and managment PC's, and my servers are Linux. so to each there own

I wouldn't waste the money Dyslexia. I went that route while waiting for my MacBook Pro. I bought a friend's custom built gaming PC (he was getting a new rig) wiped it, installed XP, updated all drivers, etc. SL crashed constantly. Reading the Win tech forums it seems the problem is the latest SL software--it's just buggy Mac or PC. It was so bad on the XP box that I went back to my old PowerBook and installed the non-voice SL client, which seems to be a bit better behaved.
You might want to give that a go, reverting to the 1.18.0.6 non-voice client...

I have a G5 pre-Intel desktop Mac and it appears SL works on it just as well as on any others: I seem to get freezes and crashes and lag no worse and perhaps better than the reports I see from users of PCs. Similarly, most other Mac users I know of - EXCEPT Powerbooks. The laptops do seem to have more than their share of problems. But I am getting along fine.
Maybe LL should switch the grid to Macs so it would run as well as my client Mac? : P

I am on a G5 quad and I always assumed I was making use of all 4 processors. I get excelllent performance, at least I did before 1.18. I have been having about 100 times more problems since that version's release. I have found that SL performance has a lot to do with RAM. The first time I ran SL on this machine I only had 1 gig and it was not so good. Basically, I crashed a lot. When I installed an additional 2 gigs of RAM it made a world of difference. I am also using an ATI x1900 card. It has its own control panel in System Preferences. By tweaking the anthroscopic filtering settings I can consistently manage about 30-35 fps. With the settings maxed I only get about 20 fps but the image is unbelievably sharp. It is my understanding that the processor(s) power makes a difference in draw time. When I teleport, my G5 has always been able to render a new place in about 5-10 seconds.
