L$ Question...

I bought some L$ last night some time between 8-11pm if I remember correctly. It's almost 3pm the next day now and still no L$. I'm starting to worry a bit. How long does this usually take? What do they mean "Pending PayPal transaction approval"? I used to be a cashier and it's never taken me more than a few seconds to do a credit card transaction. This can't be normal, can it? It's my first time buying L$, so I have no clue how this usually works.

The first purchase can take a while as they have to verify the account. Go log into your paypal account to see if you have any sort of authorization or agreement that you need to do to speed it on that end.

I did it without logging in. I thought about it because they said it could speed things, but then I thought "Meh, how long could it possibly take?". That was a mistake, I'm guessing?

DAYS?! What the... How? There's no reasonable explanation for that whatsoever.

PS: Why can't Second Life just get a merchant account like normal companies? Paypal is for random housewives to have garage sales on Ebay, not businesses.

You did not by accident buy §L on Xstreetsl?

Unfortunately, the LL staffers that process PayPal transactions are rather incompetent, or else thoroughly lazy. They take 5 to 10 times longer than any other PayPal-approved merchant to process cash-outs to Residents. Though they are usually quite happy to take your money and change it to L$.

I'm not sure what Xstreetsl is, but it's possible, I guess. I clicked "Shopping" at the top of the Second Life website and then clicked "Quick Buy L$" from the drop-down. Isn't that how you're supposed to do it?

It is XStreetsl you log into when you click "Shopping". It's only LL that can make such a stupid and confusing website. If you need money in SL, you need to go to "Dashboard", "Linden Exchange" and then buy L.

Try to go to "Shopping" again and "Log in", and see if your §L is there

Thanks for the directions. I'll do it that way next time. Thankfully, it looks like it finally went through. I withdrew the money to my avatar and hopefully when I log in I'll finally be able to do some shopping. Not that I'm not grateful for the freebies I'm using, but I'd like to get rid of them ASAP. I look like trailer trash Barbie.

Oh Melissa, before you go shopping, read some freebie blogs. It's some golden gifts to find, absolutely not trailer trash!

The last one isn't only freebies. But lots of freebie posts. I'm going to pick up stuff from the Down The Chimney Hunt myself!

What you need to buy most is shoes and boots, you can pick up nice stuff in red and green for the Xmas, but neutral colors isn't so easy to get for free.

I was given a notecard with links to several free shops in it and I've been to all of them. So far they've all had a small selection of mostly the same stuff. I have my L$ now anyway so problem solved. 5000 Should be enough to get me started, right?

Tell me about it. The shoe hunt has proven impossible without my L$. All the free pairs I could find either were giant goth boots with 50 buckles or didn't seem to work properly. I'm about to go buy a pair I saw earlier today though. ^.^

Freebies isn't just freebies. In the big places like "Freebie island" you find lots of old stuff that will not fit well. But new freebies that's group gifts, seasonal gifts, like Christmas Gifts, and good hunts gifts are great!

Good shopping, I'm off to bed in rl :)
