Does anyone know of any groups that are strictly role play. I don't want to discuss anything about RL, but I'd love to immerse myself in an RP existance in SL. Friends, job, maybe even marriage ...etc.
Also does anyone know of any great realistic sims that are just like real cities?
Please email me at erato1978@gmail.com
Thank you.

(( If you can bring yourself to ignore all the OOC chat, most places are pretty good. Personally, I like CoLA! XD )) No.

I love that there are "groups" like that. Is there also Real World Role Play anywhere?

Real world role play?
If you mean, "role playing in the real world", check out the IFGA...International Fantasy Gaming Society. They stage Dungeons and Dragons-like roleplay events conducted in real life, not around a table top.
If you mean, "role playing real life in Second Life", that's sort of all around you, all the time. If you're looking for a city to live in, check out Bay City. Or anywhere, really. Just do the things here that you do in RL. Buy some land, build a house, find someone to partner with and live there with you. You can adopt some "kids" if you want, too. Start a business. You can get a job, but it's a lot more fun, and potentially more lucrative, to be your own boss.

I was bit confused, I didn't understand what you were asking. I have friends who never discuss their real life. You can just say I don't discuss real life.

I don't think this is quite the case any more, unfortunately. The big problem with this was the rush of free accounts, which had two effects: it created a large number of residents with no stake in Second Life - no interest in housing or creating, no money to shop, etc - who hang out at all the social spots but have nothing to talk about ICly (except possibly freebies) and thus inevitably pull the conversation OOC; and secondly, it brought in extra griefers, and meant that all the residents who had previously been open to public role-playing had to batten down the hatches and hide in bunkers from the roflcopter searchlights. The idea of role-playing a business, especially, sort of went out the window a while back - as others have mentioned on the sales thread, if you want to run a competitive business now, you have to use SL just as a tool, do business 100% of the time, and budget for advertising etc. in real life terms. Because your competitors do. It's kinda the SL equivalent of immigrant labor. Big ouch.

Does anyone know of any urban RP areas that aren't "dark"? I like the set up of areas like the Crack Den, with all the different set roles you can play within the city, but is there anywhere similar that isn't dark and scary?

What's the difference between "roleplaying" a business, and doing business 100% of the time? None that I can see. You are in business or you aren't. If you are just "playing" at it, you won't succeed. Even if you're NOT playing, you might not succeed...but that's ALWAYS been true. As for "freebie accounts with no stake in SL"...well, cheapskates have always been with us, and will always be. So what?

Ok, as the original poster I wanted to clarify what I was looking for I guess. Basically a town or city .. a very well built sim that primarily engages in "real life" role play like it functions as a city. I had found on a few years ago where a guy had built an entire town with houses ... post office .. police station .. etc, The Works. That's basically what I meant.

I've heard Midian is good, but it's not the type of small town with a post office in it sim that your recent posts conjures in my imagination. Seems like most of the RP areas in SL are fairly 'dark'.

I don't RP, but a large part of my husband's time in SL is spent RPing in Deadwood, and I sometimes peek over his shoulder. OOC seems to be confined to IM there. It is a regular town, but of course set back in the late 1800's. It's quite busy as well. He's something of a night owl and so has been on at all different times of the day and night and there are usually lots of other people around.

From: Ava Manhattan I like the set up of areas like the Crack Den, with all the different set roles you can play within the city Crack Den is extremely selective and after knowing SEVERAL people who have been admitted into the RP groups at the Crack Den, i have yet to understand what criteria they are looking for in the applicants. You can hang out there without being in a group and still RP, so thats rather odd - kinda like they want you there as a warm body, just not accepted into the group.

Sounds kind of "dark".

From: Ambrosia Malone What kind if RP is the Crack Den? Sounds kind of "dark". They have all kinds of roles. it is mainly a dark RP, violence, forced sex, gang activity, etc. (the forced sex part is pretty common if you are into that). But you can fill roles such as being an employee at the bar or video store or any of the other front businesses. All in all it gives you a reason for being there, adds to your back story, gives you reasons to interact with others in the sim and ties you all together.

Oh I thought you wanted no violence at all. If some violence is OK, and you like the sound of Deadwood, you might wanna give Tombstone a try. They do have an outlaw gang who sometimes kidnaps or shoots people, and of course there are sometimes gunfights and citizens can be hurt also.
It's also a tad laggy...but a lot of people enjoy it, and it's a fairly active group. They also have a theater group btw.
