New Avatar question

On another thread I posted how I was looking for sounds so in this one I will be asking about avatar set up.

I created a very tall (about 8 feet) thin robot. Everything is sectioned off like the head, torso, arms and so on and I want to attach it to an avatar. I have seen other designers create full sized Transformers so I know this can be done. Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated.
