Make something people want.
Sell it at a normal price. Be there to help people i.e. train or help buyers modify item. Make the buyer happy and they will stay and talk and then bring others. |

make an engaging and interactive area, provide plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, watch people tell all their friends, and spend hours hanging out and sharing it with others.

Whether a store or something non-comercial:
Make it a place people will WANT to come back to. For example, have dances on weekends or such. _____________________

Doesn't matter what the venue, add a sploder, at least 20 Zyngo machines, don't forget the competition board and run regular original competitions like "Best in ... blue jeans" oh and of course...Midnight Mania. Oh and for extra special high density traffic, send a message to a Bloodlines group telling them that there are newbies waiting to be harassed.
(sorry frivalous post but the rest has pretty much been said) |

Get your shop and your products blogged about.
Have well-written ads in XStreet, and pay for those to be highlighted, and make your ads enticing enough to get people to go and visit your shop in-world. Keep a regular flow of good quality new products coming, and announce them to your update group (though don't go OTT and annoy your group with the spam). A subscribeomatic is a good idea, so people don't have to leave groups to join yours. Decent freebies for group members every so often is a good idea, particularly if you tie them in with new product launches and make folks come to the shop to collect the goodies, so they get to see your new product. I don't know why people are so obsessed with traffic, at least in shops, I really don't. Well, I know it used to be important way back when because LL paid you according to your traffic but that's ancient history. The only metric I'm interested in is how much we take in sales, and I'd far rather have 50 people a day visit my shop and spend two minutes there each buying something than have 100 people visit, spend half an hour each there and only 10 of them buy something (assuming everything's roughly the same price, of course). And I know people go on about search ratings and such, and I can see why they might be important for some businesses, but I just don't believe that the customers my business partner and I want in our shops -- people who'll pay a couple of K for high quality bdsm furniture, or 500 for a very nice pair of anims -- make their purchasing decisions on search ratings or classifieds. In fact, I know they don't, because there's way we can compete in either of those with some of the big name stores like Xcite or Sensations or DictatorShop and we don't try. Instead, we concentrate on inter-related niche markets and on turning visits to the shops into sales. Works for us. |

The most direct and effective way of increasing traffic is to use traffic bots - loads of them, high in the sky in a box - but make sure they are all registered as scripted agents.

You could place a small outlet store at a high traffic area with a LM to the main store. Many vendors can be found at those naughty places.

Hire Pep, Phil and Jumpy to stick around and give autographs and promise a photo op with each. What? It would get ME there!

If your talking club/hangout/etc. a simple one: Be there!
No one is going to come to your super cool place to hangout if there isn't already people there, real people, ones that can talk and interact with them. _____________________

There is so much free content out there, but its all stuck in little boxes and people just pick them up, maybe go through one or two of them, and then loose it all in inventory. Find some free content to specialize in and spend some serious time organizing and presenting it in a truly useful way, and in a manner that doesn't allow the user to just "grab and go". I did that with textures and am doing fairly well just on the basis of tips and traffic.
For example, there are tons of free scripts out there but the average user really needs more than just "big box o' scripts" to make any use and sense out of them. Look at what the particle lab did with particle scripts as a for instance. |

Make a freebie and give it to freebie places. Include a landmark with your freebie. 20-30 people a day grab one of my freebies out of Sarah Nerds or one of the off-world sites. 1-5 people a week show up in my store. Which is also listed in search and classifieds. That is all the promotion I do - so its no surprise. But... just wanted to throw that out there to say that putting items in freebie shops is not really a path to anything other than giving newbies a helping hand. _____________________
