Where to drive cars/fly planes?

OK I am still new to SL in a way, but where can I find some good flat places with streets to learn how to drive a car I have? It seems that many of the regions do not allow driving.

Also, where is there an airport that I can learn to fly at or a place to fly? Is there an air field where planes are provided for me to learn on?

Thanks

not sure about airports or roads, but if you're looking for wide open spaces to fly, try the Blake Sea. Its basically a huge ocean you can fly around in, or even go sailing.

There are six sims just north of the public sandboxes. I think one of them is named 'brilliant'. If not, then search for 'sandbox newcomb' and then head to the sim just north of it.

Drop me a notecard inworld, i have a long list of such driving and flying places.
Airports:
Try Honah Lee airport, ask the Pirate Air chaps about where to get free aircraft, or search www.xstreetsl for free ones using advanced search, i would advise buying one if i were you for a good flying experience tho.
There is a free Helicopter to ride at boogdolt airport, check out hollywood airport, aeronautica (some of the best planes in sl) Zee west airport, and lots more. All therse are in good low lag locations, fly slow accross sim edges and stay away from the corners.
Driving:
Search for racing tracks or racetracks, racers island is a good one. As for city areas, they are usually No Rez..BUT if you fly around the surrounding sims for a while, you can usually find a parcel that is set to rez allowed and use it as a sneaky rezzing area (keep an eye on the little no rez prim box disappearing at the top of ur screen) you can then fly or drive into town. Clean up your vehicles after use and you can go sightseeing in style!
There are many Linden roads that go on for many sims, again, you can find parcels set to rez allowed along the way, takes a little patience but they are there.

When you feel confident enough to take to the public highways, do a search for greenlaners. They have explorers info points next to roads all over the mainland, where you can pick up some maps and rez a vehicle.

Don't bother trying to drive round Zindra though, they have disabled scripts on all the roads :( vote here ...

There are beautiful roads through the snowlands on Sansara continent - just watch out for me driving on the left.

dont use a no-copy vehicle you will lose it forever.
its not fun anymore expect to get stuck crossing sims and teleported out of your vehicle when you hit ban lines that extend over roadways

I thought that *was* the fun :p It's fun in the same way that having shopping trolley races round the multi-storey is fun, or that kid's game where you have to eat jelly (jello for Americans, I think) with chopsticks.

I have a roadside plot with a sim border along one edge and I quite enjoy watching vehicles approach too fast and guessing whether they'll make it across. Outside my RL house there's a speed bump and I similarly enjoy watching cars take it too fast and waiting for the big crunch sound.

@Deira: I am very impressed that you manage to stay on one side of the road. Staying on the road at all is an achievement for me :o

That reminds me ... handy hint: if you do crash into something or end up where you shouldn't be, stay in your vehicle, right-click and edit it back onto the road.

I adjusted the parameters in the vehicle script, so I don't go too fast - but I do find myself doing a lot of editing. It's like calling the recovery service when you break down.

There are lots of nice roads on Heterocera continent too - but they are more rural and you could use a four wheel drive vehicle.

I once tried to drive along the Great Linden Wall, but was thwarted by a lot of phantom prims  Sim crossings on the Great Wall were interesting too, as you usually fell into the wall interior and then you were driving through the Great Linden Tunnel.

I managed to fly my new blimp I made for 35 minutes nonstop around zindra the other day before it finally got stuck. Zindra lag seems to be decreasing now that buildings slowing down I think. As far as looks, Im starting to see some crappy houses and lots like old mainland... tsk tsk.

If you have the vehicles, you can rez them at my free roadside/waterside vehicle rezzing platform in the sim called Desire.
