So I was sitting online with GMail open beside the SL window and chatting to someone - and suddenly they stopped talking and their replies came out in the gmail inbox - while I was still online!

I tried IMing other people, and they replied to mailbox too. Looks like the IM servers are way way broken...

Yeah; what busts my hump (as I believe the americans say) is that you have to re-log to clear the situation, and there's no way of knowing, other than leaving your mailbox up in a window.

I guess some of the people I'm trying to talk to are also locked out of IM's, and don't know that they are being accosted, or chatted up, or whatever...

*chuckes* - can't say as I ever heard that one. I have heard "bust my chops" and "bust my ass" though.

I often have a stray IM go off to email while I am logged on, though usually it is only if I am teleporting when someone sends it. I've never had any problems of continuing the conversation inworld though without relogging.

Happens to me as well, which tends to lead to pauses in IM conversation as politeness usually demands talking in turns . . .

Pep ( . . . which takes all my self-control anyway. ;) )

PS Sufficiently frequently that I have started keeping my email window accessible to check for rogue inward IMs.

PPS At least when your IMs to Groups go astray you get informed that it has not been possible to deliver them.

I'm in the US, and I have heard 'bust my hump,' but with the meaning of working' very hard to get something done. [eg. "I'll have to bust my hump to get this project done by the deadline, but I still think it's doable."]

I believe that's also the same meaning I'm used to for 'bust my ass'.

'Bust my chops' would mean something along the lines of someone (usually an authority figure) delivering correction, not in a very kind way: "The boss really busted my chops for screwing up the Jones contract." (In fact, I believe it carries a connotation of being figuratively hit backhanded across the face.)

The closest phrase I can think of (hey, it's early) for Gummi's original meaning is 'chaps my hide' or 'chaps my @ss'.

Sorry, about the IMs, I have no idea - so far I have not encountered this problem.
