Anyone know how I can change my 'Lighting" setting to something else and make that the default instead of having to change it every time I log on? Thanks

WOW I thought Torley had done a tutorial on this but he only shows how to use the day cycle editor. Although it seems like it should be as easy as clicking of save in the editor its not. That's why you're asking and the truth is its not an easy thing to do but if you have your heart set on it possible. It will take me an hour or two (at the minimum) to make the tutorial and post it on YouTube.
Please set this thread to notify so you'll know when I finally post a link the the vid. This might I'll try to have it done tonight but tomorrow is more realistic.

If you use RLV or one of the viewers with RLV built in (like Emerald) it's really easy. Someone asked this question in the Emerald forum recently and I gave them a bit of code to make their chosen preset persist across log-ins: http://modularsystems.sl/index.php?option=com_agora&task=topic&id=870&Itemid=2

Its easier than I thought with the regular client too. I use Snowglobe but the regular client should be the same.
Use Ctrl-Alt-D to bring up the advanced menu and open the debug settings. Change the "SkyEditPresets" to TRUE and same with the "waterEditPresets." Once you do that you can save your test days. I found this out 3/4 of the way through explaining the XML files editing technique when I was looking for a day length setting.

Here's a Halloween vid anyway.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl07oKVuank

That's right.

I just had a look at the files I made way back last year on my old system with a view to tweaking them. When I looked at the custom file saved in the 'windlight\days' folder, I noticed the tag strings for the keys in the Day Cycle Editor only give the file name but no path. For instance all the sky keys are in the 'windlight\skies' folder. Shouldn't this entry in the day file:

<string>midnight-2400<\string>

read something like:

<string>..\skies\midnight-2400<\string>

The XML files are not like HTML files with relative links. When looking up a sky, it looks in the skies folder under %profile%\Application Data, then in the one under %ProgramFiles%.

It's supposed to do that for water and day cycles as well, but apparently that part of the patch never made it into the mainline viewer.

Ah right. I suspected as much because it seems to work. Still I'm such a complete dingbat on the technical front I thought it best to check.

Thanks for that Arg.

Once you get the hang of the day cycle editor it's not too tough.

Every time they update the viewer I have to go back in and set up my day/night cycle but once it's saved.....that's your default every time you log in. I've done a few private tutorials on setting up the day cycle editor in-world if you're still having trouble. It's actually pretty cool, especially if you've got a lot of your own sky settings created to play with (or Torley's huge set of WL settings is great too!) I never knew about the option of just setting one sky setting to 'true' however....that certainly simplifies things a LOT :p

But, I will say, I like having my entire day & night play out exactly the way I like. ;)
