Have you encountered security panels that warn you to get off land that you are not on with messages like this "Warning this is a restricted area please leave the area"? I thought those boxes were supposed to only wake up if you actually entered the person's parcel ... but maybe they are not all equally good ....

Yes, exactly correct. There's an easy scripting function that can prevent that mistake, but not all security systems are adequate to the task. To be fair, many also include a bunch of user-configurable options, and I suppose one could dream up some exotic situation where the system should really be functional across parcels of multiple owners, so then it would be "pilot error" by the owner, misconfiguring their security script by choosing that option inappropriately.

I notice them but I wave at the camera.

I use the Hippo system which lets me add a -p flag onto the end to restrict it to just my parcel no matter how far I set it. This is particularly useful for me as a protected road runs down the middle of my land. It keeps me from needing two of these things rezzed outside my skybox.

I've tested it multiple times with ungrouped and grouped but banned alts and it seems to not kick in until I cross that line into my plot.

They are often called 'orbs' rather than boxes. Indeed, whenever I encounter one, my first thought is "Balls!".

There was a time I used these things on our land. I had our entire private island above 400m covered in em so I could leave the entire ground level free access to anyone and still have peace and quiet for the family to build and visit up on the sim size platform.

Since we have returned to the mainland I just havent found a need for it anymore. I guess I just hit a point where I dont care who comes on the land. If they misbehave freeze eject and ban work nicely
