need help, driving me crazy

i'm trying to use a Vanilla Visa Gift Card i bought yesterday just for second life use. i keep getting this error.
does SL just not take Vanilla Visa Gift Cards (google resulted in nothing), or am i doing something wrong maybe?

I've had the same problem with a regular VISA and a Debit card. My suggestion is you should call Billing support. Here is the link to support:

thanks for the info, but they didn't actually take any of my money, so i don't think i need to call them. if they took the $15, and didn't refund it, i would, but as it stands right now, i can still use the visa gift card in other places

has anyone had luck with MasterCard Gift Cards?

the one time I used a gift card I had to go to the gift card website and link RL info to the card to authorize online purchases. It might be the card you got requires this.

the card has no option to even do that.

i just tried to purchase $L via in-game, and it gives me the error "Your card issuer is not allowing this charge. You need to contact the card issuer directly."

why wouldn't they allow it? it says it works anywhere visa debit cards works, and SL does work with visa debit.

does this relate to the fact it's a non-reloadable gift card? it has/had $25 on it, and is for spending only, not reloading. so maybe the linden $1.00 take/refund thing failed, causing SL to freak out?

EDIT: i deleted and tried entering my gift card info again. now i keep getting "Not authorised", and i can't add the card....

LL charges $1 USD to the card and then refund it, to be sure the card is valid.

The problem here is that a lot of credit card companies list Linden Lab's UK-based finance office as a "fraud risk", because they make lots of tiny transactions for people in distant countries.

"Why is this gift card user in Texas getting a $1 USD charge made against it in Great Britian? Better flag that as suspicious!"

Just like the card company flagging as "Suspicious" a purchase of gasoline in a town 300 miles away from your home, when the card holder doesn't travel much. The notion that you just MIGHT be taking a road trip to visit mom and dad never occurs to them!

Using a normal credit card you get much the same problem. Every time I have created an account and entered payment info, I have had to deal with a call from my credit card company, asking if I really made a $1 purchase in the UK. I tell them "Yes. Ever hear of buying goods on the Internet?" and they approve the charge, and all is good.

So, contact the customer service number for your gift card. Ask if they can see if any $1 USD charges against the card from the UK got flagged as needing approval, and approve it.

I am betting that is the problem I think you can only add cash to your account in $25 increments so a $25 card by the time the fees are added to the minimum would be insufficient funds. The card I used was a $50 card and was non reloadable Wal MArt Card.

Minimum linden $ purchase is 2.50 but I think to move the money off your card into your account the min is $25.00. As I understand it (and I have only done it one time long ago) You have to move the money into your account BEFORE you can buy L$ with it.

no, i've purchased $5 in the past on an alt (maybe a year ago) without ever adding money to the account. unless that's changed.

EDIT: checked all the limits/fees/etc pages for buying $L. nothing mentioned anywhere about having $25 in your account first.

I have always bought my $L on a pre-paid Visa from NetSpend. I have never had to fill up my account and then buy the $L. LL always charges my card direct for them right away.

Sometimes it takes a day or few after you register payment information for LL to process it so that you can use it.

Try waiting a few days and see if it improves. If not, definitely phone. Not being able to use a payment method to spend is still a billing problem of sorts.

Just being anal, it could actually be the other way 'round: the Vanilla Visa folks may well reject charges from Linden Research Inc. (They wouldn't be the first to do so.) If that were the case, and if the situation were dire enough, one might be able to get that authorized with a customer service call to the Visa card center.

and this is why the first thing I do when I get a credit card is to call them and tell them to remove my card from fraud detection, then proceed to make several odd random low dollar purchases... load money to playstation wallet, a few bucks to pay pal, hit the next town or two over for dinner and a move, buy gas somewhere else, etc, etc. and if they block any I call them back and chew their ear off. by then they usually get the picture.
