Help!

If anyone can help me I would be eternally grateful. I signed on this morning to SL and my avatar is now the generic Ruth. I get a message saying clothing downloading. It never does... I cannot put shape on because it says I have to wait for shape and clothing to load. They do not load. I have done everything I can think of. I have basic account and I don't think Linden will help me. I cleared cache on comp and on SL. I reinstalled SL and updated viewer. I tried tping to a different sim. tried logging in and leaving it on for an hour and it still won;t load my shape and skin and clothing. Anybody have any ideas? I'd hate to have ruined this avatr. I just finished buying a lot of stuff that does not transfer.

Worst of all...I worked till 4am to make this awesome garden with pavilion and pool and the nice slow dance poseballs and had a date with my girlfriend That is ruined obviously, but it seems my whole av is ruined. I tried my alt av and that works. So now I feel even more worried that it isn't ever going to work. Help please!!

try clearing you cache and then relog.

already tried...no dice

Try to just go into edit appearance - sometimes that sakes things loose.

Rather than trying to teleport, have you tried logging into a different region?

If you don't have the "login location box" you can get it by edit - preferences, then check "Show start location."

I'd use one of the "mostly water" sims, Joseon for example.

I'd give you more names, but the map is loading like molasses.

Both very good ideas and I appreciate...But because my shape and clothing will not load I cannot even get into edit appearance

TP at random, after clearing your cache, to lots and lots of places.

Failing that, make sure you won't disconnect after 30 mins (Character>>>Character Test>>> untick Go AFK/Idle for those who haven't found this one out yet) and then log in somewhere unobtrusive/at 7000 if you have a flight assistance tool and go make a cuppa

Oh yes ... try going into Inventory and put WORN then detach everything that IS loaded but not showing ... if anything is

I've been having this problem, along with a few others for the last week. Turns out there's problems with my internet connection. I can still log in, but half the time I stay that ball of mist, invent doesn't load, experience severe chat lag...along with all those other annoyances. When I'm not in SL, it doesn't seem to affect my going to webpages, but I guess SL requires more than that. Have you checked your connection? Might want to check that out, there are a few online places you can go that will check your download and upload speeds. Took me a few days to figure it out, and hopefully will be fixed tomorrow. Yep, my suggestion would be to reboot all modems/routers that this computer connects to. I get the feeling that somewhere in the grid is a ghost whose connection hasn't fully let go...

I've had this several time, although not recently. The only thing that worked was coming back later, and sometimes it didn't sort itself out until the next day. But it did sort itself out for me so maybe it will for you, I hope so.

Thanks all...It still is not fixed itself, but I do see the mist one poster mentioned too. Sounds feasible, net conection as mine is kind of bad here at times, but I can log other avs in fine, which makes me think it's all SL fault.

On a side note...I lost my wand lol One of those no transfer purchases..Asked the seller Thalia is here name I won;t say last name, but she yelled at me for 45 mins on how I had the gall to ask her for a replacement. She asked for transaction number from slex so I gave it to her, complimented her on her handiwork with the wand and then she ignored me for 30 mins. So I IMed her back and the woman went off on me. It was a really bad day on second life. I just spent $4000 on clothes and a house and things to fill the house and all the good things are no transfer so I am kind of just FU@&ed!

but, based on your descriptions, it really sounds like user side issues. you need to reboot all your appliances and then clear your cache again. also try ctrl-alt-R to rebake textures, although i doubt that will help.

lastly, someone above mentioned that you might be also ghosted in a sim somewhere. so follow the advice and TP all around, clear your cache again, reboot everything, relog and x your fingers. a lot of steps, but it might actually work.

This sort of thing is normally caused by lag, either your connection, the SL servers or the sims or a bit of packet loss somewhere along the connection route.

I have had the same thing a few times, its most likely jusy this way on your viewer and normally comes right eventually on its own, once the problem clears and you relog. This shouldnt affect your avatar in any way and its most likely anyone seeing you on their screen, will actually see you completely normally, you can always ask someone nearby how you look.

You might need to set the ports properly in your router settings. and or set your firewall.

Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, 12043/TCP, and 13000-13050/UDP.

Sorry to hear you're having such a bad time

In my experience there are two things that clear this up.

1) Checking your connection. Make sure you're directly connected with a wire to your router and the right ports are open. Ports gave me some wacky problems 'til I got the right ones set.

2) Time. Don't clear cache more than once. If you've done it once SL has to reload everything to do with your avatar, so give it some time. Clearing cache over and over can create it's own problems. As suggested above. Log in and leave you avatar for a looong while. If that doesn't work try TPing about a bit and relog without clearing cache!

And if all else fails, do open a support ticket concerning this particular avatar. One time, my husband's account had the shape not downloading' all his folders were empty, and any changes that were made didn't 'stick'. My account was fine when I logged it in on the same computer. It was just his account and it was affecting others and the rinse and repeat didn't work.

Yes, this is something LL will take care of for even no payment info on file accounts.

I practically never clear my cache unless I am having major problems that a relog does not fix. When I do clear my cache, I log in to Corra (a water sim), detach all HUDs, and sit at the bottom of the water. I then enter random values into inventory search as this seems to speed up the loading of it. I do not TP or change clothes or reattach HUDs or do anything at all other than IMs until all inventory is loaded and my avatar looks normal. If the server is running slow or my connection is slow or any other number of odd problems, it can sometimes take half an hour for my inventory to fully reload - granted, my inventory is huge. I do not keep relogging as that just seems to make it worse.

try being a girl ruth (female avatar test) and then a guy (male avatar test) and then put your self back on again.

this worked for me when nothing else did
