I seem to have gotten then impression from reading posts on this forum and some of LL blogs that add farms are illegal, but can anyone confirm that?
I really like the get the ad farm close to my land stopped before it becomes to huge, but will LL do anything about it or is banning ad farms just on the “some time in the future” list?

Advertising is not illegal..
Putting small ad plots up for sale at silly prices, in an attempt to extort area residents - "pay me a ton of money for this tiny parcel or I'll destroy your view" - is.

There's a very narrow set of behaviors that used to be associated with the adfarm problem that have been explicitly banned. See http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/02/13/mainland-and-the-ad-farm-problem/. The G-Team reports that their marching orders are very tightly constrained in dealing with ARs associated with adfarms. The constraints are not public; it is not known how expensive a parcel has to be to be bannable, nor how egregious the build. (I can report from repeat failed ARs that an 80m tall full-bright spinning megaprim is not enough to currently qualify as banned if it's sitting on a parcel that's for sale at only 400% fair market value.)

FYI: LL used the "ad farm" policy to remove a large fireworks display I had on my land on the July 4th weekend . They had received a complaint from a new neighbor. My land, Linden protected ocean-front spanning 1 1/2 sims comprising the largest marina in SL, was priced at 9 Ls /sq m. How friggin unpatriotic and arbitrary is that? I am in the process of appealing this action just as a matter of principal. I was totally incensed and my blood is still boiling. BTW: On an adjacent property there has been for a more than a week a 80m-tall. spininning. red and yellow "For Sale" sign. That lot is priced at 35 Ls/ sq m. wtf?

From: Ciaran Laval With that surname this thread reeks of irony! QFT, embarrassingly enough. It's all I can do to keep from Godwinning a perfectly innocent thread with a simile here, but absolutely true. I can't help but be reminded of that odious oaf every time I see those three letters, and to feel a twinge of totally undeserved "suspicion by association."

One of my last G-Team visits included a land question about non-adfarm adfarms. Basically, if the land is exorbitantly priced and detracts form it's surroudings, it qualifies as an ar-able grief build that can be punished in the same way as an adfarm. Why that parcel Qie mentioned hasn't been addressed kinda leads me to doubt that, but, it's pretty much a "horses mouth" statement from Socrates.... Hmm.... I have to check if I notecarded that meeting. (o.o) ... (^_^)y

I'm pretty sure that in the Knowledge Base FAQs, there is a FAQ on ad-farming.
I would have confirmed that before posting. But for some reason, when I try to log in to the Second Life web site, it directs me directly to the registration page, and I can't find the FAQs and all.

I assure you there is no irony or laughing matter to me. I picked my land because there were no ad farms in sight and the place was nice and friendly looking.
Just did an AR on the farm, funny thing is that the parcels are owned by a lot of different groups, I guess it have been picked up by bots or something. The most expensive 16qm parcel is 4000L$ that’s just insane.
Anyway thanks for the links and the help, now I just have to hope LL actually do something about it and saves my little part of SL form becoming another sex and gambling ad hell…

When I was a newbie, my perverted snooping was limited to the Mainland, too, but now I tend to favor private estates. A higher class of degradation, doncha know.

Nope--no lag-very strong sim-rated as "AWESOME " on conovers sim performance meter at all times even with the display. I have a question on a similar issue. I have discovered two spinning ads that have been placed on land owned by Governor Linden. They have been there as long as I have owned my land across the highway, for about eight months. I couldn't believe it, when I finally investigated and placed my own spinning marker on top of the offending ads that said "ads on linden land!". I expected someone of consequence to notice and do something about it, but its been a month now and nothing.
Anybody have any experience with this issue and know of a course of action?

Yep, and it's easy: file a support ticket. They'll disappear quickly. It was a screw-up that happened when the land was taken for Maintenance: it should have been set to auto-return, but that gets skipped sometimes, somehow.

For Tel

Keep up the good work!
I only have a basic account and I can't own any land, so people may wonder why I care.
I feel that this fight is a good one and will benefit every resident of every kind. These adfarmers are a blight on this world. Everyone should care.
Please go to at least one meeting. Each time that this subject comes up on the forums, make a post. Only if we speak, will we be heard. Sounds a little melodramatic, but it's true.
Oh, Tel...Is anyone sitting beside you yet? If I can make the next meeting, I will. I promise.

There are a couple of tiny subdivided land plots near or next to my property. Some are for sale and all are over priced. One plot is even advertised as a potential legal add farm site. It's 16m. There's nothing on the plots yet except one. They are placed next to a future Linden road on a new sim, and one is next to a Linden maintenance plot. I just can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to buy a piece of land 16m for 4,000L or 4500L! Who would pay that?

This is one of the stupidest things I've heard. Of course there are going to be some moronic residents, but moronism from LL-----that they would immediatly take an action on this-----is mind boggling. If it was from the film, "Idiocracy" (a comedy about a de-evolved future society) they might say it was a 'fire hazard."

Of course, that logic is alive and well from the resident base. Look at the number of clubs that ban anything looking like a gun, when it's oh-so-easy to put those scripts in anything.
