I recently bought a Toshiba Laptop for work and I put SL on it. When I try to log in, the bar gets 90% of the way loaded before crashing. I have yet to be able to log in. I was wondering if any other Vista users have had this problem. I DLed Macromedia FLash player, thinking that was the issue, but I still cannot get in.

Are you sure the hardware meets SL's minimum requirements? Really, it should meet the recommended requirements, since the minimums are problematic. For starters, what kind of video card does it have? If it's not nVidia or ATI, that's most likely your problem right there. Intel graphics, which is what a lot of low to medium grade laptops have in them, works sometimes, but not always. That's why Intel is not on the recommended list. http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php If your hardware is on par, then I'd suggest you make sure all your drivers are up to date. Go to the manufacturer's website for each of your devices, grab the latest drivers, and replace whatever versions are currently installed. (Set a system restore point first, though, in case anything goes wrong. Vista should do this automatically, but it doesn't hurt to do it by hand, just in case.) Also, uninstall and reinstall SL after you've updated all the drivers. Another possibility is maybe you were just trying to log in at a time and location in which SL was having problems of its own. Losing connection shouldn't cause the viewer to crash, but it can. If it's none of the above, then I'm stumped. Call tech support. I DLed Macromedia FLash player, thinking that was the issue, but I still cannot get in. You mean Adobe Flash Player, right? Adobe bought Macromedia three years ago. ![]() In any case, I'm not sure what you think Flash has to do with SL. Out of curiosity, what information were you given that lead you believe downloading the Flash palyer might affect SL one way or the other? _____________________

I can run SL on my laptop using Vista with dinky Intel graphics. It's not too bad, actually, but sometimes the display driver just craps out. It's pretty rare for that to happen, though.
2mb RAM, dual Intel processor, and whatever the mobile Intel setup is. I'd agree with Chosen, try to make sure your drivers are up to date first. _____________________

Out of curiosity, what information were you given that lead you believe downloading the Flash palyer might affect SL one way or the other? Heh, Adobe FLash Player, yes. I still call it Macromedia though. And I did that because alot of videos/music were not working on pages I tried to go to. It was a shot in the dark but I DLed it anyway, thinking it may have something to do with it. But I will try everything you suggested. Thank you! <3 -Tripp |
