![]() /me hopes she's ok!!! About the only thing you can do is IM a Linden or do the live chat if you're premium/conceirge.. I don't know if they'll be able to do anything, though. /me is tempted to click Report Post to make this more visible. _____________________

Not to prevent anyone from trying anyway, but in the case of suicide (attempts) LL will not release any personal details due to privacy concerns/laws
.Very few Lindens actually seem to have access to our personal information as well, Liasons certainly don't. |

I think they are allowed to call for medical help in an emergency, though. My friend just typed that her neighbor is coming over to check on her now, so I guess I don't need to find help now. Thanks to all for your suggestions & answering me. |

For future reference, they will not do it. No way to verify the information, and someone could be playing a prank.

Something similar happened to me in an AOL chatroom several years ago. A friend was suicidal and over dosed on prescription meds. One of thepeople in thechat was an RN and she and I agreed someone had to do something. The Rn kept our friend busy [thefriend gradually quit typing though] I called aol and gave them the info. the police and paramedics arrived, we found out later and her life was saved.
Thats one reason why I have stuck with AOL over the years. They did the right thing. |

The reason most places wont do anything is simple. An example was something I had happen to me, though I was in no danger of anything. I was simply talking to a friend who had made his GF mad. I was friends with them both, this was 9 years ago though, and they knew where I lived etc. Next thing I know, because she was mad at HIM, I had a cop and paramedic at my house stating that they were told I tried to over dose. She apparently knew this would get his attention and had done it before. *rolls eyes* That case, however, they knew where I lived and all so they didnt have to contact someone else.
The problem they probably see is how to verify if this is really happening or not. I can understand their hesitation, but on the other hand I always would rather error on the side of caution. Its a sticky situatin to be sure. I hope your friend is ok! _____________________

Jes for future situations like dis, spoken from some experience with another internet service provider a few years ago: do watch out. There are a lot of people in SL, and not all of them might be honest about major immediate health concerns, suicide attempts, etc. Some people enjoy creating this sort of drama (I am not saying the above is such a case: this is general information).
There's no easy rule. Back then, my staff had to tread very carefully, an make a lot of judgement calls dat we did't wanna hafta make. In one instance we may have saved a life. In another (which I was not directly involved in), the "heart attack victim" was sitting on their porch when the EMTs arrived, very surprised that their little Internet charade led into the real-world. play it safe -- and if you feel you have a real-world health issue; if suicidal, call a suicide help line. It will be the best for everyone involved. Mari _____________________

If you have a friend thats best contact for emergency problems if to talk to you over the internet -
Strongly urge them to get out more and participate in Real Life, in SOME way. So that if they are placed in the same situation as the OP's friend they will at least have someone they can contact. Also suggest they put their phone at the computer station that way at least if they can type to you they can also call "911" (or w/e is used in their country) |
