I've just noticed a new behaviour in which groups get listed in profile between 1.18.3 and 1.18.4 (I've checked the source code so can confirm that this *is* a change between those versions, even though it isn't prominent in the blog or release notes for 1.18.4).

In 1.18.3 and earlier, if you were in a Group Role with the "Members are Visible" unchecked, not only would your name not display if a non-member viewed the group, but the group name would not display in your profile.

In 1.18.4, there is now a new setting on the General Tab for a group you belong to "List Group in My Profile" whereby you can directly control which groups display in the profile.

This is actually a good feature in itself, as this give you direct control over which groups display in your profile, whereas before it was in the hands of the group owner and officers with permissions to modify roles.

However, the default setting for the new "List Group in My Profile" seems to be on - even in cases where before the group would not display in profile. So there may be people thinking that a group isn't displaying in their profile since they belong to a "hidden" role and it hasn't been displaying in the past, but in fact it *is* now suddenly displaying.

Thanks for the information, I hadn't noticed that new box at all. :)

Last night a friend noted another weird group behaviour. The "paying group liabilities and receive dividens" checkbox seems now to be turned on by default in the role "everyone" - even if it was turned off before. Better check your transaction history - said friend went into the red a few times from store groups...

Warning... dumb question coming up:

If this is a change that happens after you update viewer, what effect does it have on the settings and profiles of people who haven't updated (like me)?????

I never quite get these things :o

yeah i like having the option to hide groups if i want to...hopefully it will stop a lot of the group spam, yay.... but then they went and added the new search, so instead spammers can search your profile for interests, keywords etc..... *sigh*

They should make it easier to see which groups you have showing rather then making you click through every one. A good feature otherwise.

Ouch! I checked the groups I own and belong to, and yes, several that I am certain had that "Pay Liabilities" role unchecked now had it checked for the Everyone role.

Getting dinged $L1 here or there because you belong to a club or mall group is a minor annoyance that this can cause.

The serious problem though is that PROFITS also get split from sale of group assets or money paid to group-owned objects! So if joe clubowner sells his group-owned parcel so he can move his club, and he has 300 members in his club group, if that checkbox is checked it means EVERYONE in the club gets an even split of the club's land sale! 1/300th to each member!

I haven't updated either, and can't get online right now, but I'd check if I were you. I certainly will when I can.

The problem with that is that I can't check because I haven't updated, so I haven't got that checkbox and the different settings and such. ;)

That's why I'm asking how that works.

I just checked all of my groups for the accounting/liability setting and they were all still as I had originally set them. Off for all but the owner role. I also checked several of the other groups I belong to and they were off as well.

So, I guess it is worth double checking in case some were hit and some were not.

So if I'm a member of a group that has this group liabilities checked for everyone is there nothing I can do? Tell the owner to change it? Or just leave?

If you see that is turned on for a group you are in then I would first report it to the group owner(s). If they don't change it, then I would leave the group.

I think most group owners would prefer to be notified if someone spotted that and would make sure it got turned off right away.
