I own and run a few clubs in SL. I've seen where some clubs section off their land into many different parcels so they can put their business in search more than once. I've thought about doing this, but wanted to know if it was effective or not. Does anyone have any feedback?

Waste of time, effort and 30L/week.

This. They would do better to focus energy on one parcel and get its rating higher, than incurring other costs just to spam the results (at the bottom).

ya unless you want to dump a bunch of lindens in each spot or have say a mall on one section and something else in the other..and if they spend time in those other sections i believe it does nothing for your club traffic..
i think it counts traffic per lot.

you would be better off putting your add in more sections than separating lots..
still it cost more having more adds and also depends on the sections you go in as to the placement costs..

like everyone else ..i agree it would be wasted money..

Also...

On more than one occasion i have searched for a place and found several entries all for the same place but worded differently and leading to the same spot and that is very annoying. One place has over 10 entries for the same location. And it does not attract me, it annoys me and causes me to avoid them because I feel like they are one of those :BUY THIS FOR $19.95 AND GET TWO" type of places when i start seeing the scam like advertising and land parceling.

Actually, having more than one parcel boosts your position significantly in all search. It has a much higher effect than any other factor. Traffic is pretty much irrelevent in search these days except for places search and from my research, many more people use all search. There is a stickied thread here in resident answers which details ways to increase your effectiveness...it has tons of great tips and you might want to check it out.

The key really to any of this is to have your land name etc hold key words that folks will search on to find you.

the only thing with key words is this..
use a key word for something that is not there and you won't see those people again..
there is nothing that gets under my skin more when i am shopping for a certain thing and get tricked to a place because they used the keyword and they don't have the item..
i know it's not ARable but it should be for wasting peoples time..

true ..i go right for the item i am looking for..if it's furs i type fur..if i want to dance i type dancing or clubbing..
i'm used to the older one word searches now so i really don't put in more than that unless it is a two worded name..

Yes! When I got looking for something, say a skirt, that's what I type in. Skirt. I don't use, stylish skirt, because the idea of stylish is like the idea of beauty..

There is no point to having two or more parcels for search purposes if you are going to spam the bottom. Each parcel is ranked according to its own merit for its keywords, picks, etc. It doesn't matter if there are 40 entries or 160 if the 40 main ones all had 3 extra plots.

Unless you mean the old search all that ranks by traffic, to grab the people who reverse the ranking order, time is better spent increasing the ranking of the main parcel than increasing the amount of less relevant results.

The OP specifically mentioned clubs, and I have a particularly hard time coming up with a reason this could benefit venues, where Places search still matters. I guess in theory a club could have more terms to match than will fit in a parcel name and description, but because Traffic still determines Places search rank, I can't see how that can pay.

(Off the wall idea: Maybe the scheme is to have multiple parcels in order to *omit* search terms from some of them. For example, if I see "Zyngo" or "BloodLines" or similar crap in a parcel description, I'll never go there... but if I encounter the same venue a few pages deeper into search results omitting the odious words, I'll probably have forgotten that it's really the same place. If they hide the offending content far from the parcel that omits it from the description, maybe I'll buy something before the junk rezzes.

Speaking of rezzing: I now use the All search exclusively, and pay no attention to matches in the name or description (although they still determine ranking, of course). The reason is that I only read the object description and *location* so I can get to the store, stumble through the gray slime directly from the landing point to the item for sale, and try to get it and only it to rez so I can tell if it's something worth buying. Back when things would rez in finite time, I'd just TP somewhere, go AFK for a few minutes, come back and cam-shop. Not anymore.

I see the point now, if you want to omit terms, but then they clearly are not going to get picks from customers. I wouldn't waste a precious pick slot on a place if I already had one for them.

Limited keywords available in both the parcel name, which is very important and the parcel description. Getting people into the general vicinity of your business is an important step.

Agreed about the picks, both parcels won't be as powerful in those terms.
