This Italian architect has designed a self-powered rotating skyscraper - it's being built in Dubai. It reminded me of SL because the floors are voice activated - something that is very easy to build in SL but rather alot more difficult to build in RL

I was just watching a video of that on the BBC site:
It looks stunning from the outside, but given the computer-simulated internal views, I think I might feel rather sick if I saw the external landscape moving by that fast... |

How do you get the link to appear as a link Skell ???
I've been in a number of revolving restaurants - Teleturm in Berlin and Skytower in Aukland for example - they tend to revolve about once every half hour which is slow enough not to fling your dinner over somebody. I'm not sure how fast this new building will rotate though. I like the idea though because lets say you have a house in SL with a nice verandah where you sit and witch the sunset - you can the just say "Rotate House 180" and catch the sunrise as well ![]() Added: They Say 1-3 hours for a rotation in the article Added: If you tell me about the link I will send you a photograph of a three pound coin |

That makes
Yes it's very similar - the modern day equivalent - despite my advancing years ( I'm 136 ) I don't recall pre-decimalisation terribly well |

..... Added: If you tell me about the link I will send you a photograph of a three pound coin You'd need a really strong handbag to carry a few of those around. _____________________

The Space Needle in Seattle, WA, USA was part of a Worlds Fair exhibit, and features a slowly rotating restaurant at the top. Over the course of a leisurely meal it rotates enough for you to see most of the city.

I saw this too, beamed in to me from RL! Well, actually it only exists in virtual form.
Very clever, but I can imagine huge technical problems if it's built for real. I'm not a tekky but electrical connections would pose a headache for a start. What would they use? Some system of contact brushes and a live circular track for each floor? _____________________

To say nothing of the plumbing. Sustainable design? Certainly not. But when you're wallowing in money who cares? |

I suppose the lifts, stairs and plumbing would all have to be held within the static central core of the building.
I feel sorry for the confusion caused to all the nesting pigeons |

I can get lost in a three room bungalow - a building where the rooms moved around would slay me
Looks very cool on the outside though - doesn't it? I wonder if the 1-3 hour rotation times would actually be observable though. _____________________

Accually , it would make their job easier. They could just sit in one spot with their squeegie out and let the building rotate the windows past. Ya I am rather lazy and look for shortcuts in life... _____________________
