Gwyneth has clearly put alot of thought into that - some of the later points closely echo the some of the opinions being floated around in the forum. Especially with repsect to the migration away from SL into comparable Open Grids...

That is well written. And as much as I would like to claim to understand the drama with things like child avies and such I really don't. I have spoken out as such. And I get the reply of 'what about a mother and her daughter, isn't that a beautiful thing?'

And sure that is, but this isn't a mother and daughter. And I am a big follower of the family is what we create it to be, not just blood. And maybe i am biased a bit, I am not really one who likes kids, at all. But the reality, gasp, reality, is that this isn't a child, this is a grown adult roleplaying as a child. And I am NOT saying this is sexual, not at all, because I know enough to know it isn't largely a sexual fetish.

But the unfortunate reality is that the media will exploit this. They have and will continue to do so. Nobody has really stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, this is being done for our own protection. That maybe the Lindens are not loving the negative press of the past. That maybe they want the 'best foot forward' in this instance. If I can keep my clothes on for a day, then why can't we all?

I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if there *were* paramilitary sheep somehere in SL - it's just that kinda place.

Seriously though, maybe there should be a resident organised alt.SL5B convention somehwere in a mature sim where you can get your nipples, whips and chains, sheep outfits and any of your "mature rated" other bits out... and party on in the traditional way. Of course mature area = no kids. So that solves all that nonsense.

Just an idea - prolly been suggested already though.

Well the GLBTQ SLPride is coming up, early July, I can guarantee there will be plenty of nipples. Maybe a few sheep, lol

LL has some very dedicated employees who work tirelessly to try to make the resident experience better. I have seen QA people on at 3am their local time working to solve bugs. Many others that love their job and contribute.

That being said, LL as an organization makes some of the stupidest decisions I have seen from the corporate world. Strange how in this case; the whole is less then the sum of it's parts.

As much as I appreciate the 'serious' in all of it - my reality check says this is all just over what can be brought for show and tell to a birthday party.

Ingredients:

- vague, highly unlikely but world-ending consequences (oh noes!)

- people in authority doing the 'wrong thing'

- vilification of a minority of other residents

- rollcall of everyone and their dog chiming in with an opinion

- if event never happened, it wouldn't really matter



...is any of this sounding like "internet drama" to anyone else but me?




The only good news is, the constant barrage of it drove me off the forums long enough to try Will Wright's Spore Creator.

I have to agree with Desmond. Did anyone really think LL was going to announce to the world how much they love BDSM and Gor, and every other little fringe group in between? LL is a company competing in the corporate world, whether they are a corporation yet or not. Corporations are in many ways like Politicians, they have to be perfect, offend nobody, and project an image that appeals to the demographic they want to sway to their side.

For LL, that's Educators, Businesses, and just about anybody *but* BDSM/Gor/Fringe groups. Every day they don't kick us out, is a miracle to me. Be glad for that.
