Hi
One of my neighbours has a security orb where the sensor reaches over onto my plot, and I keep getting this message in chat, every 30 seconds or so.
[1:43] Security Orb v6.04 Eject-Only 30s: Warning: you have entered a restricted area. Please leave within 30 seconds or you will be ejected. Action logged. < Auto-Response > [1:44] Security Orb v6.04 Eject-Only 30s: You have been ejected from this parcel for not leaving within 30 second. < Auto-Response > [1:44] Security Orb v6.04 Eject-Only 30s: Warning: you have entered a restricted area. Please leave within 30 seconds or you will be ejected. Action logged. < Auto-Response > [1:45] Security Orb v6.04 Eject-Only 30s: You have been ejected from this parcel for not leaving within 30 second. < Auto-Response > [1:45] Security Orb v6.04 Eject-Only 30s: Warning: you have entered a restricted area. Please leave within 30 seconds or you will be ejected. Action logged. < Auto-Response >
It doesn't actually eject you, just keeps sending the message, which is getting a bit irritating. I have sent nice notecards to all the neighbours, asking if it's theirs could they please adjust it a bit, but with no response. Is there a clever tricky trick where I can find out where this thing is coming from, so I can at least mute it? I am sure I read that in another post, but have trawled and can't find it (but I might have been dreaming!)
Thanks
Joss

If you have a tool like Mystitool or similar, they often have built in scanners. Mystitool does. Will scan for scripted objects within a certain radius and report back names and owners.

You can mute the object by clicking on the up arrow attached to "Communicate" (lower left corner of my client), which gives you a menu, one item of which is called "Mute List". Select it, then you are given an option to "Mute object by name..."

Perfect, thank you. I knew I'd read that somewhere. Serves me right for not reading my Mystitool Manual properly!!

Interestingly, neither the Mystitool or the Mute thingy picked up the chatty object, which seems a bit odd. Anyway, good news is that I have found it now, so at least I know who's it is.

It's not sending chat, it's sending IMs. That's why you can't mute it. As for why Mystitool couldn't locate it, did you specify the object's name precisely as it is displayed here? Sensors will only detect objects if the name given exactly matches the object's name. Lastly, as the scripter of my own home security system, I cannot believe people are still making and selling systems that don't do even basic checking to ensure this doesn't happen. It's either pure ignorance or laziness on their part and it should not be tolerated. Indeed, if the owner of this orb doesn't rectify the situation, they should be ARed for it. I know I've certainly ARed people in the past for just this type of problem, in one instance a poorly coded orb was trying to eject me as I was sailing on Linden owned water... in an adjacent sim.

Ah, that would explain things. I did think it might have been due to the fact it was over the sim border, but obviously not. This particular neighbour has only been in SL a couple of weeks, so I am sure she just probably hasn't read all the instructions. I met her a little while ago and she was all excited about setting up home, etc. I've sent her another notecard and we'll see what happens. If I just mute it, then everyone else will still be able to hear it, which kind of defeats the object.
My tenants all have security devices, and I spent ages setting thse out to make sure the scan range is set well inside their plots so as not bother anyone else.
Hopefully it will resolve itself.
Thanks again.

I wonder if this device emails the owner to tell them their security has been breached.
I sure would hope so.
