Hello everyone Here's the situation: The owner of a plot of land on a mainland SIM that I use (along with a couple of friends) has disappeared and deleted his account. Another plot of land he owned has already been taken from the person who was renting it from him and they lost everything. We presume that he has also stopped paying for the plot that our place is on, so are worried about losing everything. What I am trying to do is find out who I can contact on Second Life in order to try to take over the payments for the plot of land we are on before it disappears. We have no way of contacting the registered owner and his account has been deleted. Could anyone please advise on the correct way of going about taking over payment for a plot of land and who the best person on Second Life is to contact? The estate is shown as 'mainland' and the estate owner is shown as 'none', so I can't contact anyone via that section. Thanks very much in advance if you can advise

My advice would be to take up everything that you own in to your inventory and start looking for another landlord asap. LL will not assist you in this circumstance. You didn't mention whether you pay rent on the land or if you were there at the generosity of your landlord. If you lost money then I feel for you but LL will still not assist you.

Unfortunately, if the land owner has left SL then the plot will be reverted to Governer Linden at the end of their tier period and auctioned via the LL auction system. Since your rental gave you no agreement with Linden Labs, you have no advantages on the auction as a result of having previously rented there.

If this is mainland as you say it's unusual, but as previous poster has said ,link the property and save every thing.you will get bumped off because the FIRM will nick the lot.Best bet team up with your mates and buy mainland and share the cost. If you then only buy 512 each you won't pay extra and can't get bumped. until or when you decide to sell or quit at your own pace. take care and get luckier .

No one can "take over payments" either. That would require the owner to sell it to them and the owner has evidently left SL and abandoned the land. It will go back to the Lindens and as already stated will be auctioned. But that land won't even go to auction until the "grace period" for the owner reinstating his account has passed...........I believe that is 30 days after the account has been canceled. LL will own the land til that time.
You can put in a support ticket to the Lindens and see what they can do...........which I'm afraid will be what has been stated. The land will revert to Linden Land and all items not owned by Governor Linden will be returned to whoever owns them.

If you're premium you might be able to get the land back via Auction but sometimes it seems when you want specific land some unknown person will show up and start to bid against you every time....

Thanks for your replies everyone. Some interesting and helpful information there. It looks as if it's as good as lost then. All items are saved, so no problems there. Shame to lose the plot though as it is well established. Thanks again.

Make sure the friend who "lost everything" checks his inventory - especially lost and found - for coalesced objects which might be the whole lot returned in a few lumps. A coalesced objects with the multiple-prim icon might be called "object" or "rug" yet might be a house and all its furnishings if one included object was "rug" or "object."
Rez any coalesced objects in build mode in a sandbox or open area - objects will rez in the same formation they were in when returned.

The exact same thing happened to me with the first house I rented. It took about a month for Governer Linden to take over and during that time my stuff remained in the house without any problems, I even continued to live there rent-free for 3 weeks until the griefing and prim litter got too bad (people using the place as a sandbox). I did pick my stuff all up back to my inventory and I moved elsewhere before the land was set for auction, but one day I found a couple of things in my Lost and Found that I'd forgotten and left behind.
