It's nice to see some positive press about SL

I have a relative who normally sends me articles about the dark side of SL and I have to, again, tell her that I'm not breaking up someone's marriage because I'm sleeping with their SL playing husband.

Today they send me this article which I really enjoyed since someone in our family has this mental challenge also, I plan to contact this guy in world and talk to him (also congratulate him for doing so much good in the game).

That is awesome. I have a friend with Asperger's too, but I've never been able to convince him to try SL. :-/

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I enjoyed reading through that, thanks Cunundrum. Like the fellow in the article, I have Aspergers. SL definately allows me to interact and socialize in ways that I wouldn't dream of doing in RL. I don't know about all the potential stuff they are talking about, but just in the here and now I think it's a great medium. As mentioned in the article, just being able to socialize and meet people while maintaining that 'safety' or 'comfort' zone of your own familiar environment is great. And as someone who finds it almost impossible to read emotions in facial expressions, the smilies and emoticons and some of the gestures are a huge boon to understanding what people mean when they are saying things.

I know my relative has issues with understanding the rules of interaction with other kids. He will grab someone to get their attention if they do not acknowledge him. I wonder how this translates online.

I really hate those articles written but journalista that spen 4 hours in SL check some previous articles from other ppl on internet and then write what they 'think' about it.

It takes some time to understand that SL is not a game and that if 'X' enterprise didn't have success is because of they lack of knowledge about metaverses and not because SL is a failure.

And they always talk about numbers and statistics. But I never saw an article that speaks about architects, artists, designers, scientists (I saw one about it) that uses SL as an enviroment to develop their projects/works/creations.

SL is not the eight art, but some SL users are creating amazing artworks inside of it. So I'm glad that a big media channel like CNN writes a more serious article about what you can do in SL and what is it good for.
