There's an empty mainland sim thats entirerly owned by the lindens. Its in the snow sim section and its been empty for over 2 years now. I wonder what the lindens are going to do with it?

I lived next to a totally empty "protected land" sim for a while. That one also happened to be in the snow sims. While I was there, the lindens put it up for auction and sold it.

That may or may not happen to your sim. Enjoy the peace and quient while you have it.

I also wonder if it might become an infohub too.

Mainland is just getting quieter as people move to Zindra or estates.

The difference between mainland crowds and traffic and Zindra is pretty striking right now - at least in the sims I've seen.

So I doubt they're in a rush to open up anymore new land there.

They own a few up there, including several around Wengen. Some are used for the Winterfair, while others are simply held as "open space" for skiing or other such activities.

There are also a few spare... what we now call "homestead" regions, I guess areas that are supposed to remain virgin forest or whatnot. Kerchal I think is one of these, and certainly the lakes are light regions too. It's a great idea. Many, many standard regions slammed together = total lagfest, whereas the breaks that light regions provide, take a lot of load off and make for some nice scenery.

I'd guess it's Cloudmount.
I had a parcel on its southern boundary for a while.
It's a strange orphan sim with a steep North to South incline. I did wonder while I was there if I'd se it on auction all of a sudden.

There is a road parcel cut in it that is a continuation of the paved road leading into it.
