Crappy Laptop Issues

Ok my goooood laptop with the killer graphics card died on Christmas morning. Until it gets repaired im using my 4 yr old laptop....and of course it does not run SL well. Can you guys tell me anything i can do to make it run as well as possible? I am limiting things like music, media, draw distance and all those kinds of settings that i know of. I can function, but it is very slow going.

I have heard folks mention the other viewers but have never had the need to use one...is that something that i should consider? and if so, which one?

I have an HP entertainment laptop,one important thing is a cooler,don't know if you have one or not.
I actually have two coolers under mine with two fans each,i cut one fan off which is right under the laptop fan intake so it would'nt interfere with the laptop air intake.

I would suggest some basic computer maintenence. Defrag your system, clear up as much Hard drive space as you can. Also, make sure your video drivers are as up to date as possible. What kind of video card do you have? If it is too old, the game may run but the graphics will make the game run very slow.

thanks...i will only need to use this computer for another week or so while my good one that runs SL great is being repaired...what im really looking for are any easy quick things i can do short of making any mods to this old thing LOL

this one was great at the time i bought it, but is clearly not set up to run SL and i wont be upgrading or adding anything to it just for a week's worth of use.

I don't know anything myself, but I'm wondering if a pre-windlight viewer will run better for you. From what I read here, there is still a Nicholaz pre-windlight one that can be downloaded. It's not the one called "eye candy".
