Hello,
I would like to set up a movie night for members of a machinima site wherin we could all get together to watch a member's movie in real time. I own no land and am wondering if there is a free facility to do something like this. I have seen festivals and other events of this sort but I am unsure how to go about this. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the "Bayjou Theatre" is Linden owned, and I know they have shown resident-created machinima there. I'd go to the theatre, see who owns the screen, (almost certainly one of the Lindens) and ask that person directly how you can schedule a "movie party".

My theatre company has a theatre on a nice quiet sim. You could use that and we'd enjoy having the place used. You'd have to set up a screen though. IM me (it'll go to email, but I can answer) if you are interested. You can tp there by accessing Act Up Theatre Company tab in my picks.

The difficult thing about watching a movie in a group in SL will be that the media player is completely controlled by each person's client. They can start and stop the movie at any time, and the show will be out of sync for different people unless everyone hits play at the same time.
Can someone please post up a solution if there is one, or correct me if I'm wrong about this?

could do it like a live stream, and stream yourself giving an intro then start the movie stream, if you have the software and connection to do it.
works like shoutcast only with video
