Hi together,

I’m on Second Life since a week and my English isn’t very great so sorry for the errors. I would ask your help because i received messages saying that i was a robber and an „ashhole“ and saying she will make that I get banned.

The reason of that is an error in renting lands from NinjaLand. Since two days, i see a placard saying that you can buy and rent land. I don’t unterstand that this will mean that if you buy that land you rent it. I know that i have should smell that something didn’t work well if the propose a rent treaty in the buy option when i buy/rent the parcels.

So technically speaking I rent that land without knowing that and so I built somethings that wasn’t accepted by the rent treaty. The owner so decicded to reclaimed the lands because i don’t have respect the treaty. He send a IM to me explaiying that he have recupred the land because i don’t respect the rent condition and reading that, I see which error i have maked. I don‘t have bought land but rent! So i say him that it was not problem for me, that he can took the land back without problems. So technically speaking the problem was resolved yet at that stade. He propose me to rent the land because I expleinded him my error a seoncd tim but I refused because in my spirit I only want to buy not to rent.

At the end of our discussion I asked him if I can get the money that I have pay fort he buy. He refused saying that i have make a error so he haven’t to restore money. I was a little angry but considered that moeny as a compensation for him because oft my error and his work to restore the lands. I saying him so, that he can get the money and seing that the problem was apparently resolved for everybody I went out of the chat.

So, if I have understand all the situation, that situation was resolved. Technically, i have onyl rent lands and don’t respect the treaty and so lost that land. Now, I received messages with the contain that I cited at the beginning. I suppose that the owner tell his friends that I was a robber and if that it’s right I can’t understand why he say that because I say him clearly that was for me no problem that he recupered the land and so applicated the treaty. I don’t see where i have show the intention to „stole“ land.

Can somebody tell me what I must do because I’m really don’t interesting to be banned without can explain my version of the facts Linden Lab?

Hiya Gorun, and welcome to SL!

Do not worry about being banned - only Lindens can ban you from Second Life and they will NOT do this unless you are a VERY bad griefer. The person you talked to can only ban you from the area they control. The money you spent is gone, though :(. Your best bet is to forget about it and move on.

Buying land can be complicated, especially if English is not your main language! What is your native language? (edit: German?)

There is certainly more to this story, because no one gets called names like that without a reason. I think the combination of non-English speaking + anger + probably something rude said earned the name.

For the record, you can buy mainland with no covenant. But there are now two sets of Ninjas that I know of and the larger one that most people know, they have never been that unprofessional, not that I know of.

In the future, I would use the Land Sales tab in Search and then use the dropdown box to filter only for mainland parcels, and then buy the land you want without any middleman.

Sounds to me the only one robbed was you ?, by taking the lands back without warning ? ..are you sure it was the Ninja's?

dont worry about beeing banned, if you keep a good manor yourself there will be no problem, also if you receive more threats you can set chat-log on in your preferences for a transcript of any chat as evidence.

1. ALL land in Second Life may be considered "rented".

2. On the mainland, you buy land from its owner, and then pay rent, called "tier" directly to Linden Lab. If you have a Premium membership, you are not charged tier on the first 512 square meters of land you own. You must have "payment information on file", such as a credit card or a PayPal account, to have a premium membership and to own mainland, because Linden Lab collects tier in "real" money, not in Linden Dollars.

3. On a private estate, there will be a "covenant", what you call a treaty. The land is owned by another resident. He may charge you a "purchase" fee, and will also charge you a monthly or weekly rental. Private estate owners may take back their land at any time they wish. This time, it sounds like you violated the covenant of your land, and so the owner threw you out. But he could have done so for any reason, or for no reason at all. It is a good idea to check the reputation of the owner before renting from them.

4. Do not worry that you will get in trouble for what happened. At most, the owner may ban you from land that he owns. You will not be banned from Second Life.

Situation is that Gorun bought three or four parcels on our private estate for L$100 each and didn't pay the rental boxes. Then he stuck up ugly houses and tried to re-rent the parcels. Really the ugly houses isn't the point, the point is he bought the parcels but didn't pay rent.

We reclaimed all the parcels and declined to refund his L$400. I believe we also banned him from the estate.

It's a fairly common move for griefers to buy the essentially free parcels on private estates and hope the owner doesn't notice while they try to resell which is why we charge L$100 to fend off that kind of thing. I suppose we assumed Gorun was this kind of griefer and that's why we declined to refund. Maybe we were mistaken.

Either way, our parcels aren't for sale for L$100, they are rented for a significantly larger sum which he declined to pay so I guess I figured that was the end of it.

I'm completely in accord with you what you say, but I would mention that I have think that it's possible du buy or to rent, so I have intepreted the affair. It was a error to don't ask more informations but believe that it was not my intention to hurt you in some way. It was a missunderstadning of my part and I excuse me for that.

I understand your but i can assure you that I don't are interesting in such criminal actions. I'm only since a week here and i know somebody that can confirm that my intention wasn't to meet profit with theirs parcels.

If you dont understan the covenant don't click it.

It seems to me that the genlemenss lack of understanding of the language is at the root cause of this. This is a reputable land rental operation in sl. He clicked the I have read and understand the covenant button to "buy" into the rental.

His lack of understanding is not the fault of the sim owner. Life lesson newcomer, don't click on stuff until you know what the heck it is you are doing.

Go to help island ask a mentor, ask the owner before hand, , make a post on this forum, there are many things you can do to avoid these issues. BTW, enjoy sl.
