So...I downloaded the latest client and when I logged on my av looked like she's been through a shredder. I can TP and move around, land looks normal, but my av and all other avs have had a horrible encounter with a paper shredder. What's going on and how do I fix me?

Try turning off hardware skinning in preferences / graphics.

If you do a search for shredded or shredder or shred you should find some threads on the subject.

I encountered an avatar shredder at a sandbox once. It was AWESOMENESS. You 'touch" the device(it loks like a woodchipper) the it asks to animamte your avatar (the first time) then your avatar proceeds to climb into the woodchipper with all kinds o blood and guts spewing out the far end... (...and all this time I thought I had a sick sence of humor, SL your world to maime as you see fit)
