OK, this question arose because of another thread, the 'list of debug settings definitions' one. But I didn't think it'd get answered there, since that was answered rather completely.

Anyhow, in that list of settings ,I found 'RestrainedLife' and 'RestrainedLifeDebug'

Does that mean to have my viewer work as a RL viewer, I just set RestrainedLife to true and reboot it? I thought you had to download a whole new viewer or something

Yes it's an unofficial patch, but if you have those settings in your debug list then you have one of the patched viewers (the Real Restraint one of course, plus Cool Viewer [eta: but not the mac build because the patches didn't apply], have it).

I really hope viewers for "RL" are more stable than the ones for SL. ;)

In the new Cool viewer, the features are in a preferences tab as well... :)

And yes Qie, it includes Nicholaz's patches, as well as others, so is much more stable! ;)

Gah...i'm not so sure... I keep crashing out of my RL into SL, so I'm finding the SL viewers to be more stable ;)

Fascinating.

Restrained Life catered for in the official docs????
How does this stack up against the talk of Corporate/Disnification of SL?
Isn't Restrained Life a little racy for mainstream?

Oh, the wiki is only semi-official. Residents can add information more or less freely, but the Lindens reserve the right to rein it in if need be. Those debug settings were a resident contribution. There are PG uses for pretty much all of the RR protocol, so it's not especially scandalous.
