Sheena, that "mandatory" is at least partially misleading.

I'm using the 1.18.3.4RC release candidate viewer with the Nicholaz xm patch...and I can get in without SL insisting that I download and install the "mandatory" upgrade to run.

I haven't tried the straight unmodified LL client to see if it works the same way, however.

Another approach might be to download the LL upgrade directly from their website, rather than from the link on the SL opening screen...if you havent' tried that already.

Or a third idea: Uninstall SL completely, then download and install the new mandatory version.

"error opening file" is a local error. You may have a corrupt file, spyware or virus causing issues on your compy. Last time I had that error I had a nasty bug eating my FAT table.

Scan everything, remove SL completely and do a full install.

Avast found no viruses but spybot found 4 things and I cleaned them out so now going to uninstall SL and try again.

Weird that I can run the candidate viewer with no problems tho

How long can you stay logged in using the candidate client because it seems that is the only one I can use to log in with? I mean whats the difference if I continue to use that one? Not sure why the candidate client works and the LL log in doesn't.

I'm able to get in, but I'm experiencing the worst Packetloss since the update. Why is this so never ending?

Hopefully you work things out.

You can use the candidate client for as long as you want. Eventually a version of it will become the fully released client. Therefore the version numbers: 1.18.3.x for the candidate, 1.18.2.x for the current "mandatory", fully released, one.

When you use the "candidate" client, you are just acting as a beta tester for LL's next client release. Now they can do this on the main grid instead of having to do it on the beta grid.

Thanks! I am thinking once that happens until I figure out whats going on that when the next update comes I won't be able to sign into that one even using the candidate client. This sucks big dogs!

If the first one was corrupt then they should have seen that on the test grid but released it anyways... not a happy camper over here :(
