Is there anyway possible to make hillside land completely flat? I've used the normal terrain edit and a cheap terraformer tool and nothing works.

are you on mainland? i know some places they don't let you change..but if you need a tool you could use a land flattening prim..
i use one at times just to set points in my terrain..but i have some dozers that will level the place too lol i was on dozers gone wild once cause of them kiddingbut they have gone wild a few times lol _____________________

well the ones i have i just grab it with the editing tools and if it goes above or below the ground it will pull the land to that level..if i lift it up it pulls the land up to it only to where it is....it usually makes very clean flat squares..most are copy so you can throw a few out there and mow the lawn with them lol

All mainland has a limit of +/-8m, I think it is. That's the most in either direction you can move the land from it's "original base height", when it was first layed down by LL. Much of the hillside land in SL has already been moved some when it was first smoothed over by LL or other owners. That makes it very difficult to tell how much available movement it has left. I have some places on my hillside area that won't move an inch one way, but can go 16m the other.. it all depend on what the original height of that land was versus what it is now. I got valleys I can't raise and peaks that wont flatten. The only solution for me was to flatten what I can and terrace the build.

Most of mainland has a limit of +/-4 meters, a few mainland sims can have the terrain changed significantly more, but this is mostly on old land and it can be messy see Jessie sim.

As somebody else mentioned, terracing is probably your best bet if it's mainland.
If you need it flatter than terracing allows for, then you'd have to build up a platform of prims, and then you can level it completely. Of course this will reduce your available prim count, and create a wall at the edges of the property, but sadly that can't be helped. |

For builders just starting out, hillside is often too much of a challenge. There are some really spectacular builds that experienced builders have nestled into hillsides, but it requires skill and the will to design to the land form, not the other way 'round.
Temporarily, yeah, you could plunk down a big flat prim to build on, but if you're going to do that, you may as well just build it all in the sky; at least you get less viewer lag up there, and won't trash the landscape for the neighbors. Longer term, it's just a question of which comes first: desire and skill for building on the hillside, or swapping for standard-issue Flat Green Mainland. _____________________

Don't flatten it, take advantage of the terrain and build something that fits the hillside instead.

Work with the land gets my vote too. There is way too much flat land to be trying to make a decent hillside into more

And another vote. Flat land is boring and terraced land is ugly. Use the hillside creatively. Even better, get a ravine. That's even more fun.

Good morning everyone, I seem to have gotten LOTS of replies. I'm going with the most of you who voted building with creativity that goes with the hillside. Thanks guys =).

And another vote. Flat land is boring and terraced land is ugly. Use the hillside creatively. Even better, get a ravine. That's even more fun. [ threadjack ] One of the saddest things to me was seeing new continents open, or actually what happens after they open. I watched Satori, Corsica, Gaeta, and Nautilus (continent) come into being. The story is always the same. Satori: ![]() Corsica: ![]() Geata: ![]() In each of these cases, once the land sales were off, land barons came in, terraced flat parcels, and slapped down fields of for sale signs. Kilometers and kilometers of flattened squares where once hills were. It really killed the character of these places, making them "just another parcel." In those rare instances when I've been able to terraform land (my parcels are in Bay City, Nova Albion, and the suburbs, and are not terraform-able at all), I've stuck to the subtlest of changes, preferring to have a slope to my land when I can, and work with the shape of the place to make something special. There's plenty of flat stuff out there already. To the OP: Most mainland parcels are restricted to a ±4m amount in terraforming, which would make it largely impossible to make a hillside truly flat. You may be able to terrace flat areas, or depending on how gentle a slope it is, you might be able to get it awful close. It will take you some work. And while it is your land to do with whatever you wish to, consider also how you can work with the land and its hillside to make a convincing, beautiful place. Best of luck with whatever you do! Since the OP walked away happy, perhaps I could ask for some advice along the same topic.
I rent a full region and have Region/Estate privileges. I have the Skidz Dozer and have used it a fair amount. One of the things I've found is that I can't get the land totally flat, especially when I'm making thinner paths. Does anybody have advice that could help me smooth out the bumps in my life? Is there perhaps, a better product that I should look into? TY. _____________________

Do it manually.
About Land / Edit Terrain / Flatten Choose a size appropriate for the path width and click your way along the path. |

Do it manually. I've done it manually. And still I get bumps. I don't want the bumps. NEXT! _____________________

if you have estate manager rights, download the raw file and edit it directly then upload it

if you have estate manager rights, download the raw file and edit it directly then upload it Yeah, that's probably the only way they're going to get it to their liking. There always seems to be a bit of bumpage left over from manual flattening. _____________________

How about...
Start with a wide flat path and then bump/smooth the edges into the surrounding terrain? Editing a raw file sounds good as a last resort. The terrain tool sometimes has a mind of its own. _____________________

Bumps in your land
10-26-2009 19:51
I have found, that if there is a large change in the hight of the land near by, it can cause bumps in the land. The only way to fix this is to just adjust the angle of the drop by smoothing it out a bunch.
