My school is working on a project within the world of Second Life. The UI for building things in SL is a pain in the butt to many of my classmates, but we have lots of experience with Autodesk Inventor from our engineering classes. Is it possible to build/design things in Inventor and upload them into the SL world? Ie, to make a building and upload the entire thing instead of having to go through and use the tools SL provides to make it? If that's possible, how is it done?

Thanks in advance!

Not directly. You can make a sculpt map (similar to a normal map) and upload that, but it's usually not good for inorganic shapes.

As for the building tools, they're quite simple and easy for the average non-pro to pick up, which is the point. You're in the wrong place if you're expecting support for programs that cost more than most of us make in a month.

[/end slightly bitter rant]

Hey, no worries. Just looking for ways to make it easier on those poor guys who can't figure out the simple stuff, haha.

learning to build in secondlife with the tools here will improve your modeling skills in other programs to build more efficiently it gets you to think how your building and keeping things
low lag
i didnt like the tools here at first but its really easy and much better way
and you really should learn other programs and not just stick with one it will limit your creation ability

I wish I could do 3d in an environment where I could control each vertex and the texture mapping... *sigh*
