What DO the networkers do?

I own the better part of a lakeside sim that has absolutely NO lag. It borders a full protected lake.

There are only 3 parcels in it that are less than 512sqm. One of them, a 32sqm parcel belongs to me, but I promised the person who sold it to me that I'd keep the memory of the person that she knew who used to own it, and I built a 7 prim memorial there.

The other two belong to networkers. One of the networks seems to be gone, and the property was transferred to an AV who, compared to what I call "old timers" is a real Methusala. Wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that back in the day, he sat in that proverbial garage with Phil over beers and helped work out what we now know as the grid. Of course, that's just my overactive imagination, and I digress.

SO, I'm surrounding these two 16m plots on three sides. (The fourth is protected water.) Yes they're out of the way, and, yes in the past, the owners were mostly cooperative about moving them to where they are now, but, well. . .I don't know what they'll actually do next week or next month or whatever. There used to be three networkers, but one of them but his plot up for sale without honoring his promise to let me know, and, a next sim neighbor got it. Happily, he had no problem selling it to me.

What exactly do these networkers do? One of the plots has a few prims on it, the other is completely empty--except for 3 prims that I parked there to keep other litter out. The three prims have been months without being used.

If they'e "collecting data" the only thing they're learning about my sim is I own most of it except for a handful of very good friend neighbors who WILL sell to me.

Anyway, I'm not on a witch hunt. I know the situation could be much worse. But small plots make me nervous.

If you surround them on three sides, have you asked them to sell it to you? It's a pretty resonable request.

What do you mean when you say they're "networkers"?

I've never been able to get a neighbor to sell me their parcel. Maybe it's my negotiating tactics.

In the future, I'll try to leave the term "dirtbag" out of the conversation.

I guess it's those groups that maintain a 16sqm plot if every mainland sim. I don't know what they do, I assume it's collecting some traffic numbers or sim usage or something. Although, I can't see much point in that considering most activity is in private regions.

I would like to know what they do, just for curiosity.

Yeah, I was going to say, "pick their noses and wait for the network to go down."
