Rescuing messed up clothes

I bought a lovely medieval costume, but some of the items (prim objects) clashed with other things I was wearing (for example, my hat replaced one of my neko ears).

So I thought I'd be clever, and attach the hat to a different point, then move it so it fitted.

So I clicked on Attach to, and attached it to my right shoulder instead or my right ear. Of course, it attached but at a very funny angle, and I decided as it was quite an expensive outfit (and no copy, since it was transferable), that I wouldn't mess with it after all. So without editing it, I detached it, and just attached to my right ear as it was originally. Except this time, it didn't fit - it was at the same strange angle that it was when I tried attaching to my shoulder.

I couldn't find anyway of "resetting" it so that everything just attached the way it did when I first bought it, so I had to buy another copy of the outfit instead. It's OK, at least I can now mess about with the original until it does look OK on my desired attach points.

But for future reference, if I accidentally attach a piece of clothing to the wrong point, is there any way of rescuing it and getting it to look the way it was intended when I realise my mistake, detach it, and re-attach to the original point?

Thanks!

You will simply have to get on a pose stand and manually reposition the hat.

For the record, the only good places to attach something that attaches to the head are : skull, nose, mouth, chin, left ear, right ear. Any other position will NOT follow the head as you move.

Attaching to the eyes is only useful for prim eyes. They move a lot.

Chest is about the only choice to attach to the neck, as there is no neck attachment point. Spine sort of works for the neck, but not as well.

There's no reset per se, but you could have just edited it back into place, rather than buying a whole new outfit.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I've done exactly the same thing with the same results. :(

I was advised that each attachment point has its base axes at different angles - none of them seem to relate to each other relative to the world, SL or RL. So the only thing is much nudging/tweaking to try and get it back. I even tried noting the axes values before starting and still didn't get the item back to it's expected position by typing these values in.

I would have thought that LL would have used a logical and universal set of axes when building up the avatar but it would appear not.

Editing attachments just takes practice. It is a pretty necessary skill though, even for us non-content creator types. :)

Thanks everyone! One reason for buying a new outfit was it's a very complicated one and I didn't take a snapshot of me in it before I started messing with it. So I'm not even sure what each item SHOULD look like when it's on correctly!

And yeah, the axes are VERY strange. Trying to rotate a ruff to fit exactly really *is* rocket science to me, but then I am blond :)

No one's mentioned it, but if you can take a copy of the item before messing with it, then you have the original to fall back on. Many items that are non-transferable are copyable, so it's always worth checking :)

he did mention it was no copy because it was transferable

one thing you could have done is passed it to someone you trust and let them adjust it at least to a close position
then you just nudge into place
