In-Game Browser

So is it just me, or does the in-game browser suck? Sure, it's useful for looking up something in the knowledge base on-the-fly, but you have no chance to watch a video tutorial, as I'm guessing that this is not supported. I usually wind up having to open Firefox, which hogs a good portion of RAM, but at least I can see everything on the SL website. So, is it just me?

Other than for highly specialized uses, an embedded browser will never be as good as the standalone browser you normally use. At a minimum, you won't get the same button layout or keyboard shortcuts that you're used to.

I don't use the embedded browser in SL, nor the one in WinAmp. Usually I consider them a waste of programming effort. The only justification in SL is the ability to use http to display results on an SL prim - but that's not a general purpose browsing application.

I almost never use it, as it takes up too much of my viewer's space and doesnt seem too useful on the aspect of speed. In anycase, my mac has the "spaces" function which allows me to toggle between different apps pretty easily, so its much faster for me to search my stuff on firefox or safari.

I keep Firefox open on a separate monitor 24/7 any way.

There's an internal browser? I never knew that.

I would imagine that now that their API for video streaming is out - we'll start to be able to view embedded FLV files directly in the game - at least to some extent. I would imagine it'll be a few months, at least, before we start seeing the first ones roll off the alpha lines. Stay tuned...

I always have "use external browser" ticked in my preferences. I only find the internal system helpful when I'm looking up lsl stuff.

Lately if I hit the show in my default browser from the internal browser in SL it crashes firefox hard enough I have to restart my machine to get firefox to work.

This just started happening a few days ago so maybe its a firefox update boloxing up the works. Buts Annoying.

(and yes, the internal browser does not have many features, but it is forced to live within the limits of the SL software. I use firefox on a separate monitor myself)

Oh God I hate video tutorials! Luckily it only took a few seconds of that one to show that I don't have it, since I use an older viewer. Thanks.

Um, no, they don't have that ability, but they do use HTML rendering for search.
