I realized the other day that I wasn't using SL truly as a "My World, My Imagination" vehicle in that, except for a more luxurious wardrobe and ballroom dancing regularly that I was pretty much living my life in most other ways as I do RL. I began thinking about if I could live anywhere in any type of home, what would it be. Ok, don't laugh, but I'm a city girl and I've always had the desire to live in NYC if it were feasible (or a similar large city). I LOVE Carrie's apartment in Sex & The City - just the right size and "ambiance" for my personality. Has anyone come across a 1-bedroom or even studio in a "large city" type sim before I go traipsing all across the grid in search? Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

From: Czari Zenovka Has anyone come across a 1-bedroom or even studio in a "large city" type sim before I go traipsing all across the grid in search? The real problems with apartments is the chat range. It's hard to have a private conversation when prim walls don't stop chat. You get a couple of neighbors yakking and next thing you know, everyone is all over everyone else's convo. I'd recommend a skybox. You can likely find one that suits your taste, but no neighbors. And, much better views more often than not.

I have seen several in my travels. In fact, I believe there is one in the sim neighboring mine. However, I have to concur with Ghosty's assessement. The problem with conversations bleeding over into your apartment would be most annoying I'd think. I do remember seeing one building where the units were tremendous in size a long time ago, but I wouldn't remember where that was to save my life. They were 2 story apartments, gigantic rooms - really penthouses like you'd have in NYC. I would also go with a skybox. There are several which have that NYC/big city feel to them. I have a small one called NYC skybox which is has a SoHo loft like look and I know several people make similar ones. Mine wasn't even very expensive and isn't very prim heavy either. I'm from NYC originally and it does have an authentic look to it. Being up in the sky, with no neighbors and the ambience you seek, seems a better idea.

I appreciate your response, Ghosty, and understand it. I've lived in a skybox the majority of my time here...but I'm currently yearning for a planned neighborhood, like one of the Shermerville, etc. sims (just can't afford the prices to buy). I figure I can mute people nearby if I don't want to hear them. Kinda looking for a "brownstone, neighborhood" feel. ETA: /waves back to Elora Thanks for your input too. I might hate it after awhile, but just would like to try "ground living" for a bit. I saw some brownstones on a Greenwhich village sim along time ago but the weekly rent just was too high for me at the time. Also saw some similar places in London. Haven't checked out Dublin yet. /me puts on comfortable shoes

You can have a place with a NYC feel, no matter where it actually is.
My friend once had a bachelor pad that looked like one of those converted warehouse apartments. The windows had panoramic views of the city...except they were photographs, recessed away from the window to provide a feeling of depth.
Put in a TP at your door that sets you down in a city build, and voila! NYC apartment.

I rented a large apartment in Ethereal City for 4 weeks, just to try out the feel of city living. It was great fun to look out the windows and down to the streets. There was a cinema opposite, a bar/pool-room up at the corner and a club not far away. On one side I had a large balcony overlooking a small park and a dance pavilion, with 'the ocean' beyond it. I also had interesting skylines around me. The place has a fantastic city feel to it. I only left because I wanted to use the money to rent tier for my own parcels.
I was careful to use IM with my friends when they visited, but I did get a bit of chat from the apartments immediately above and below. I just muted them rather than start complaining. It was never more than 2 or 3 people. The mute/unmute was a small price to pay for the fun of having a base in the sim.

not sure if our apts on etopia would fit the bill or not czari...but the cool thing is there gets to be a nice community feel with the folks that live there.

Thank you all again for your input and suggestions I've seen some of the skyboxes that are built like a NYC loft with changing pictures of the skyline. One cool one even had a working elevator with the metal grate across the front. I do like those, however, what I'm going for is living on the ground, in a big city neighborhood (again, think "Sex in the City", "Friends" any NYC Woody Allen movies, etc.). When I first began in SL I rented a huge house with a private beach on the Galveston Island sim that I loved, then later moved to an apartment on the same sim. I enjoyed that sense of community but again, Galveston ain't NYC. *grins* @Elora - Nooooo...the Greenwhich Village sim was so cool...dangit! @Sling - That sounds closer to what I'm looking for. Will go check that out, thanks @Cristalle - Will check that out as well, thank you Hey Jojo! The community on Etopia is definitely wonderful, just have my heart set on being in a metropolis. Trying to work out my "fantasy" of living in a huge city, right IN the city.

Actaually....Abiss makes a really neat NY studio apartment as a skybox that can be rezzed on any plot you rent/own. his could be a fun alternative in that you can find a place that has less lag then a big city area....and still get the feel of a cool NYC loft. It's worth checking out anyway.....Abiss has got some great skyboxes.

There is a great NYC Sim, that I had a brownstone in for awhile. It was right across from a replica of Washington Square Park. It was basically one big living room with a bedroom. The Sim was simply called NYC, the owner is Cheri Bing. There are several others, but I recommend this one personally.

For everyone who has recommended a skybox, I truly do appreciate the suggestions; just want to sit on the apt. steps and people watch sometimes.

The closest thing that could possibly be construed as a home for me in SL would be my work platform several hundred meters above my platform. 700 meters up, low lag, no neighbors to speak of, land ownership rights, what more could one ask for.

Ok, will try to straighten this out I've *lived* the vast majority of my SL IN the sky. Now I want to try something *different* and live on the ground in a large city aka NYC. I could make over my present skybox (1700 m in the sky) into a NYC apt. but I want the entire package of the city. Thanks again everyone for your answers - can't wait to check out the places on the ground that were suggested!
